Job Description
Masonicare Health Center, located in Wallingford, CT, is a well-established healthcare facility dedicated to providing exceptional care and support to its residents and patients. Known for its comprehensive range of health services, Masonicare Health Center prides itself on maintaining a safe, clean, and caring environment that enhances the quality of life for those it serves. This facility integrates a commitment to health, dignity, and respect with a strong focus on environmental stewardship and safety. The establishment employs diverse professionals who work collaboratively to uphold its high standards of care and facility management.
The role of Porter - Custodian for the evening shift at Masonicare Health Center is a critical position responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and overall upkeep of the health center’s environment. This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week from 1:00 PM to 9:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with no weekend shifts. The position requires specific expertise in floor care, including experience with floor care machines such as scrubbers, buffers, and carpet extractors. The custodian will be expected to perform various cleaning and maintenance tasks essential for the day-to-day operations of the health center.
As a Project Housekeeper, the individual will follow established departmental policies, procedures, and safety protocols to ensure compliance with quality assessment and infection control standards. The porter will work according to a detailed schedule that ensures the consistent and thorough execution of cleaning duties. Leading cleaning crews or handling assigned projects independently forms a significant part of the responsibilities. When not managing projects, they will perform regular housekeeping tasks such as emptying trash, biomedical waste, and recyclables, transporting these materials to centralized collection points and operating compactors.
Floor care duties include stripping, refinishing, extracting carpets, and wet and dry mopping. The porter will also clean walls, windows, vents, and handle the maintenance and cleaning of draperies, cubicle curtains, and other patient-related furnishings. The role extends to the repair and washing of beds, wheelchairs, and other patient equipment to ensure these items are safe and sanitary for use.
Furthermore, the porter plays a key role in supporting operating functions by moving, removing, and relocating furniture, equipment, and furnishings as required. Preparing rooms and areas for meetings, activities, and special programs is also expected. This includes performing terminal and isolation cleaning following prescribed health procedures to prevent infection spread within the facility.
Effective communication with residents and patients is critical, with sensitivity to their age, needs, and physical conditions. The individual must attend departmental meetings and ongoing inservice programs to stay updated on best practices and safety regulations. Adhering strictly to universal precautions and demonstrating respect and care for all residents, patients, clients, and staff is a fundamental part of the role.
The porter will also assist other departments within the health center as needed and perform any additional duties to maintain a healthy, clean, and safe environment. This includes the operation of vacuum cleaners, some mechanical floor and carpet cleaning machinery, and handling specially designated waste.
Overall, this position is ideal for a dedicated, detail-oriented individual who possesses the necessary floor care experience and is committed to supporting a healthcare environment with excellence and integrity. Joining Masonicare Health Center means becoming part of a dedicated team focused on delivering top-tier healthcare support services in a role that directly impacts the quality and safety of patient care environments.
