Job Description

BH is a people-first multifamily owner and operator that has grown from a small startup into one of the nation’s largest commercial real estate companies. Founded in 1993, BH is known for its unwavering commitment to doing business the right way and investing in its team members. The company currently manages over 100,000 units nationwide, employs over 2,800 people, and operates with an integrated approach that keeps its processes in-house. As a result of these efforts, BH has been recognized by Fortune Magazine as one of the “Best Workplaces for Women,” “Best Workplaces for Millennials,” and “Best Workplaces for Diversity.” BH’s culture is driven by innovation and a proactive, can-do attitude that constantly seeks improvements. The organization is dedicated to building smarter ways to live, invest, manage, and grow within the multifamily real estate industry.

At BH, the role of Porter is vital to maintaining the appearance, safety, and overall quality of the company’s multifamily properties. The Porter reports to the Community Manager and holds no direct reports. The position is full-time and onsite, with a typical work schedule from Monday through Friday, though occasional overtime and extended hours might be necessary to meet operational needs. The Porter plays an essential part in upholding the high standards that BH sets for its properties and communities. This includes maintaining the exterior grounds and common areas as well as the interior common spaces to ensure an inviting and well-maintained environment for residents and visitors alike.

The responsibilities of the Porter role involve a blend of custodial duties and general maintenance tasks. This includes the upkeep of landscaping, parking lots, sidewalks, driveways, and buildings, as well as managing trash disposal processes like trash chutes and compactors. Porters also assist with post-move-out trash removal and may help maintain community pools and surrounding areas as needed. Attention to detail, a commitment to customer service, and professionalism when representing BH are critical traits for anyone occupying this role. Working knowledge of basic maintenance and repair, familiarity with cleaning equipment and hand tools, along with basic computer skills to perform job functions, further supports the success of a Porter at BH.

The work environment requires physical endurance, with duties including lifting up to 50 pounds, continuous movement such as standing, walking, bending, stooping, crawling, and climbing stairs, as well as the ability to work with both hands for various tasks. Exposure to different weather conditions is inherent to the job, while safety and adherence to company standards remain top priorities. BH is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer that values diversity, fosters inclusivity, and supports growth for all employees. Compensation at BH is competitive and reflective of geographic location, skills, and experience, ensuring fair pay for qualified candidates.

Joining BH as a Porter means becoming part of a dedicated team that values hard work, integrity, and a sense of community. It’s a chance to contribute to the day-to-day upkeep and improvement of high-quality living spaces while being part of an industry-leading multifamily property management company with a strong culture of innovation and continuous improvement. BH encourages candidates who are motivated, dependable, and passionate about property care and customer service to apply and grow with the company.
