Job Description
Cleveland Clinic Lutheran Hospital is part of the renowned Cleveland Clinic health system, recognized globally for its commitment to providing exceptional healthcare services and advancing medical research and education. Cleveland Clinic is known for its patient-centered approach, cutting-edge technology, and highly skilled professionals dedicated to improving patient outcomes. Lutheran Hospital, a proud Magnet Hospital awarded by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, signifies the highest standard in nursing excellence and patient care, reflecting the organization's adherence to professional nursing practices and superior healthcare quality. This prestigious designation marks Lutheran Hospital as a leader in nursing services and patient satisfaction within the Cleveland Clinic network and beyond.
Joining Cleveland Clinic Lutheran Hospital means becoming part of a world-class healthcare institution that values every caregiver's contribution to delivering exemplary patient care. The hospital offers a collaborative and supportive work environment where employees are recognized and appreciated for their dedication. The Porter position at Lutheran Hospital plays a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the hospital environment—one of the key factors directly affecting patient health and comfort. This role involves performing essential cleaning and maintenance duties in both public and patient areas, ensuring that every detail—especially those related to nutrition and environment—is meticulously managed. Working at Lutheran Hospital as a Porter means engaging in tasks such as sweeping rooms, moving furniture, washing walls, vents, and lights, with a significant focus on floor care, including carpeted and resilient surfaces. These activities help sustain high standards of hygiene and environment that support positive patient experiences and infection control.
The position operates primarily during the daytime, with standard working hours from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., including mandatory weekend shifts to maintain continuous hospital cleanliness and safety standards. The ideal candidate will demonstrate critical thinking, decisive judgment, and the ability to work independently, ensuring all duties are performed effectively with minimal supervision. As part of the Environmental Services department, Porters follow strict protocols and safety standards regarding the use and dilution of cleaning chemicals, handling waste properly, and responding to emergency cleaning situations as they arise.
Beyond these operational roles, Porters contribute to setting up meeting rooms, replenishing supplies, and reporting any facility-related repairs, ensuring the hospital environment is not only clean but well-maintained and functional. This role requires physical stamina to handle tasks such as moving items weighing up to 50 pounds and standing for extended periods. Personal protective equipment (PPE) compliance is mandatory to ensure safety in all tasks performed.
Cleveland Clinic Lutheran Hospital values diversity, professionalism, and compassion in its workforce, providing numerous opportunities for career growth and development within its extensive healthcare network. While salary details are generally discussed during the hiring process, the Cleveland Clinic offers competitive compensation packages aligned with market standards, reflecting the importance of this role within its operations. By joining Lutheran Hospital as a Porter, candidates embark on a meaningful career path contributing to the health and well-being of patients, staff, and the broader community served by one of the most respected healthcare organizations worldwide.
