Job Description

RWB Thrift is a dynamic and fast-paced thrift store dedicated to providing the community with a wide range of donated items including furniture, clothing, household goods, and electronics. The establishment prides itself on a collaborative and customer-focused environment, emphasizing safety, cleanliness, and organizational excellence across all departments. As a staple in the community, RWB Thrift is committed to creating a welcoming atmosphere for customers, donors, and employees alike. The company upholds values of diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity, ensuring a respectful and supportive workplace for all individuals. Their dedication to employee growth is evident in the culture they foster, where new perspectives and continuous improvement are highly encouraged. This position is offered on an hourly wage basis ranging from $16.90 to $17.90 per hour, reflecting the company's commitment to fair compensation for vital roles within their operational team.

The role of a Porter at RWB Thrift is integral to the smooth operation of the store’s backroom and production areas. As the 'air-traffic controller' of the backroom, the Porter anticipates the needs of the production support staff, ensuring that supplies are always available and properly placed. The Porter maintains safety by prioritizing cleanliness, organization, and efficient workflow on the production floor. This role requires alertness to potential hazards in walkways, promptly removing any impediments to maintain a safe environment for the production team.

A Porter’s responsibilities are multifaceted, including roles such as Trailer Loader/Unloader, Trash Compactor Operator, and Organizer. As a Trailer Loader/Unloader, the Porter safely and efficiently handles incoming deliveries which may consist of furniture, boxes of clothing, electronics, and other donated items. They are responsible for sorting, organizing, documenting arrivals, and transporting merchandise to designated areas within the store while adhering strictly to safety protocols and store procedures.

As a Trash Compactor Operator, the Porter manages waste efficiently by operating and maintaining trash compactor equipment, ensuring proper disposal and space optimization. Moreover, as an Organizer, the Porter manages the backroom’s supply inventory, receiving, organizing, and replenishing essential items like hangers, sensors, racks, carts, and bins, thereby supporting timely availability of supplies on the production floor.

The role demands a high level of physical capability including the ability to lift up to 70 pounds occasionally, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive manual tasks requiring fine motor skills, balance, and agility. The work environment is consistently busy and noisy, with bright lighting conditions, demanding flexibility and adaptability from the Porter. Interaction with customers, donors, and coworkers is frequent, thus good communication skills are essential. Although not mandated to communicate exclusively in English, a basic understanding of English for instructions and communication is beneficial.

Joining RWB Thrift as a Porter means becoming part of a passionate team committed to operational excellence and community service. The company supports all employees by providing reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities and is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and respectful workplace. This role is ideal for individuals who thrive in active, detail-oriented environments and who take pride in maintaining an organized, safe, and efficient work setting.
