The Porter role at Cogir Senior Living is a full-time position offering a competitive hourly wage of $18. This role is essential for maintaining the community’s cleanliness, safety, and overall upkeep. The position involves performing a variety of housekeeping duties, addressing minor maintenance tasks, and ensuring that the community complies with established operating and safety standards. A Porter plays a vital role in creating a welcoming, safe, and healthy environment for residents by carefully attending to cleaning tasks in resident rooms, common areas, and other locations within the community. Attention to detail is paramount in preparing resident rooms for new admissions and ensuring compliance with housekeeping procedures and safety protocols.
Additionally, the Porter is responsible for supporting minor maintenance operations, including performing small repairs and reporting necessary repairs or hazards to supervisors promptly. By participating in preventative maintenance efforts, the Porter contributes to preserving the structural integrity of the community’s buildings. The role demands excellent customer service skills as it requires close interaction with residents, their families, and staff members to respond to maintenance and housekeeping requests efficiently. A strong commitment to safety is required, including adherence to infection control policies, safe use of equipment, and proactive management of potential hazards to prevent accidents. Job Requirements
- high school diploma or equivalent preferred
- ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods
- must be able to follow instructions and safety guidelines
- basic knowledge of cleaning and maintenance techniques
- willingness to work flexible hours including weekends if necessary
- reliable and punctual
- ability to communicate effectively with residents and team members
Job Qualifications
- high school diploma or equivalent preferred
- previous experience in housekeeping, maintenance, or janitorial services is an asset
- good communication and customer service skills
- ability to follow safety protocols and procedures
- basic repair skills are a plus
- ability to work independently and as part of a team
- reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic
Job Duties
- perform cleaning tasks in resident rooms, public bathrooms, common areas, and other parts of the community as assigned, including sweeping, dusting, mopping, disinfecting, and waste disposal
- safely discard trash and reline trash bins
- clean trash containers as needed
- prepare resident rooms for new admissions, ensuring they are clean and move-in ready
- ensure that all housekeeping procedures and safety protocols are followed to maintain cleanliness and hygiene
- complete apartment turnovers efficiently and ensure timely service to residents regarding maintenance requests
- perform minor repairs, such as touch-up painting and basic fixes
- report any repair needs to supervisors, including broken fixtures, furnishings, or safety hazards
- participate in the preventative maintenance program to maintain the structural integrity of the building
- respond promptly to maintenance and housekeeping requests from residents and staff
- work closely with residents and their families to address concerns and provide excellent customer service
- follow established safety precautions, including proper equipment use and lifting techniques
- report any hazardous conditions or malfunctioning equipment immediately
- comply with infection control policies and universal precautions during daily tasks
- keep floors dry and clean up spills promptly to prevent accidents
- ensure that equipment, tools, and supplies are properly stored, especially before breaks and at the end of the shift
- keep supplies, equipment, and residents' belongings off the floor and properly stored in designated areas
