This position is for a Porter, a vital role responsible for the upkeep and sanitation of all common areas within the building, both indoors and outdoors. This role is structured as a full-time position with a work schedule from Tuesday through Saturday, 8 AM to 4 PM. The Porter plays a crucial role in ensuring the building remains decent, safe, and sanitary at all times. The duties include regular cleaning and maintenance tasks such as maintaining air conditioners by cleaning filters and condensers monthly, ensuring the functionality and safety of smoke detectors, emergency lights, and fire exit locks, as well as changing fuses, light bulbs, and ceiling tiles as needed.

The role also involves unclogging drains, toilets, and sinks and using specific tools such as meters to measure UV lighting. The Porter assists in fire drills to uphold safety protocols and sets up various equipment, including chairs, podiums, audio-visual devices, and overhead projectors, upon request. Another responsibility includes tagging equipment for inventory control and maintaining cleanliness in high-traffic common areas like dining rooms, bathrooms, elevators, lobbies, and hallways.

Additionally, the Porter manages the proper disposal of trash, keeping outdoor areas clean and safe by removing snow and applying salt during winter conditions. Restocking and requesting replacement of toilet accessories, removing graffiti, cleaning walls and windows, and assisting tenants with moving belongings are integral parts of the job. The position demands vigilance in promoting safety by posting signs during cleaning activities and providing coverage for other porters during their absence. The role requires being readily available onsite during emergencies to ensure consistent maintenance and safety. Overall, the Porter is essential to the smooth, safe operation and maintenance of the building’s environment, playing a key role in supporting the organization’s mission to provide a safe and pleasant space for all users.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years of Porter or equivalent experience
  • Ability to work Tuesday through Saturday from 8 AM to 4 PM
  • Capability to perform physical labor including lifting and standing for long periods
  • Willingness to work in various weather conditions
  • Ability to respond to emergencies and be onsite as needed
  • Strong communication skills

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduate, GED or trade school diploma
  • Minimum of 2 years experience as a Porter or in an equivalent role
