The role of a Hostess/Host at The Ritz-Carlton is integral in delivering the brand’s famed "Gold Standards" of luxury service. This position is designed for enthusiastic candidates who value attention to detail and a warm, welcoming presence to enhance the customer dining experience. The Hostess/Host is responsible for greeting guests warmly upon their arrival, assessing the size of their parties, and seating them efficiently while ensuring the environment is immaculate and inviting. The daily duties involve arranging tables and settings, verifying clean menus, and guiding guests through the dining area, including accommodating families or groups with special needs. Maintaining cleanliness through clean-as-you-go procedures and monitoring the overall dining atmosphere for guest comfort and safety are key responsibilities.
This role requires excellent communication skills and professionalism, including clear speech and telephone etiquette, to maintain smooth operations and positive guest interactions at all times. Hosts/Hostesses must uphold high standards of personal appearance and conduct, protect company assets, respect confidentiality, and comply closely with company policies and safety protocols. They work collaboratively with other team members to ensure seamless service delivery and exceed guest expectations. The position also involves physical activity such as standing, walking, and moving objects up to 10 pounds, emphasizing the importance of energy and stamina.
While no prior work experience or supervisory background is necessary, a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Job Duties
- Greet guests and determine the number in their party
- Seat guests by finding a clean, available table
- Pull out chairs and place clean or current menus in front of guests
- Guide guests through dining rooms and provide assistance as needed
- Move and arrange tables, chairs, and settings for groups with special needs
- Ensure appropriate place settings including napkins, silverware, and other items
- Check and maintain menus to ensure they are clean, current, plentiful, and wrinkle-free
- Maintain cleanliness of work areas using clean-as-you-go procedures
- Monitor dining rooms for seating availability, service quality, safety, and guest well-being
- Follow company safety, security policies and report any incidents
- Maintain uniform and personal appearance professionally
- Welcome and acknowledge guests according to company standards
- Communicate clearly and professionally including answering telephones
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with team members
- Perform other reasonable duties as assigned by supervisors
