The role of the Pool Check-In Attendant is an integral part of the YMCA’s commitment to excellent customer service and community engagement. This position focuses on creating a welcoming environment at the pool check-in area by greeting members, guests, and program participants with friendliness and professionalism. The attendant plays a key role in responding promptly to member inquiries, providing information about memberships and programs, and ensuring the cleanliness and organization of the pool area.

Operating in a dynamic environment, the Pool Check-In Attendant helps build relationships by connecting members with each other and the YMCA’s resources. This role requires attentiveness and the ability to identify and communicate any unusual situations or unresolved issues to supervisors for timely resolution. The attendant must also strictly adhere to YMCA policies to promote safety, member satisfaction, and operational efficiency.

This position demands flexibility, requiring the ability to work varied hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays, which ensures coverage during peak times. The YMCA provides comprehensive training, including certification in CPR/AED and First Aid within 30 days of hire, to ensure all employees uphold the highest standards of safety and service.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum age 16
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required within 30 days of hire
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
  • Previous customer service, sales, or related experience
  • Basic knowledge of computers

Job Duties

  • Provide excellent service to members, guests, and program participants in the YMCA
  • Assist in directing members or prospective members to sales/service associates as needed
  • Build relationships with members and help them connect with one another and the YMCA
  • Inform supervisor of unusual situations or unresolved issues
  • Apply all YMCA policies dealing with member services
  • Adhere to all policies, guidelines, rules, and best practices as outlined by the YMCA of South Hampton Roads or directed by supervisor
  • Assist in all areas as assigned
