The department’s commitment centers around promoting healthy lifestyles, enhancing community engagement, and ensuring access to recreational resources for people of all ages. As a public sector entity, the City of Pittsburgh is committed to equity, professionalism, and excellent public service, striving to maintain its facilities to the highest standards to foster community wellness.
This non-union, exempt, and non-career position offers an hourly wage of $15.75 and operates within the Parks and Recreation Department. The role is essential in ensuring the smooth functioning of recreational facilities, particularly aquatic centers. The primary responsibility of the position is to provide excellent customer service by greeting patrons in a warm and courteous manner, managing admissions and cash transactions efficiently, and supporting overall facility operations. This includes handling cash registers, selling pool tags and daily admissions, and maintaining accurate records of transactions and attendance throughout the day.
Additionally, the position plays an integral part in facility safety by enforcing rules and regulations, assisting aquatic staff with patron behavior management, and participating in Emergency Action Plans alongside the aquatic team. Working as part of a cohesive team, the individual will be responsible for maintaining clean and welcoming environments throughout the facility, including pool decks, grassy areas, restrooms, and changing rooms. The role demands excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, especially in handling cash and completing closing procedures accurately to ensure that revenue is accounted for properly.
Candidates must be at least 16 years old by the summer orientation date, and those under 18 without a High School Diploma or GED must present a valid work permit. Residency within the City of Pittsburgh is required at the time of application and throughout employment. The City conducts comprehensive background investigations as part of its hiring process, emphasizing candidate suitability for public service roles. This position requires employees to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, reflecting the operational needs of the aquatic centers and recreational facilities. Uniform compliance is also mandatory, promoting a professional and approachable image for the department. Overall, this role is critical in enhancing the safety, cleanliness, and overall customer experience within Pittsburgh’s aquatic and recreational facilities, making it a rewarding job opportunity for individuals who enjoy working with the public and supporting community well-being.
