Located at McLane Children’s Hospital in Temple, TX, Baylor Scott & White is currently seeking a dedicated Polysomnography Technologist 2 to join their team. This full-time night position (12-hour shifts) plays a critical role in the Sleep Laboratory operations at the facility, working under the direction of the Sleep Lab Manager. The primary responsibility of the Polysomnography Technologist 2 is to coordinate and perform polysomnographic studies, which involve monitoring and diagnosing sleep disorders. This specialized role requires technical expertise in sleep study equipment, patient care during overnight studies, and collaboration with physicians. The technologist is accountable for maintaining the quality of sleep lab studies, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures, and overseeing the performance and maintenance of all relevant equipment.
In addition to conducting tests such as oxygen titrations and continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) titrations, the technologist is responsible for scoring and documenting patient studies in detail to aid physician interpretation. Effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare teams about sleep disorders and their management is an essential part of the role. The technologist must also ensure infection control protocols are followed by cleaning and maintaining equipment properly. Regular consultation with the Medical Director ensures high standards in patient care and study accuracy. The role involves orienting and training new sleep lab employees and implementing performance improvement initiatives related to staff education and development. The technologist collaborates closely with the department manager to address any issues and suggest solutions, contributing to continuous quality improvement in sleep laboratory services.
This role requires a strong foundation in polysomnography care modalities, excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and the ability to function effectively under stressful conditions. Proficiency in general computer skills, electronic medical documentation, and equipment troubleshooting is expected. Job Requirements
- Associate's degree or equivalent work experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience in polysomnography
- Certification as a Polysomnography Technologist
- Current Basic Life Support or CPR certification
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to work night shifts and 12-hour shifts
- Knowledge of safety infection control and isolation procedures
- Proficiency with polysomnographic equipment and troubleshooting
- Computer skills including data entry and electronic documentation
Job Qualifications
- Associate's degree or 2 years of work experience above the minimum qualification
- 2 years of polysomnography technologist experience
- Certification as a Polysomnography Tech (POLYTECH)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification required
Job Duties
- Performs polysomnographic studies in a clinical setting including oxygen and nasal continuous positive airway pressure titrations
- Scores studies and formulates reports for physician interpretation
- Documents all pertinent patient events according to department policy
- Communicates instructions results and relative information to patients physicians and family members
- Calibrates and performs routine maintenance on equipment Troubleshoots and contacts manufacturers for repairs as needed Notifies proper personnel for equipment problems Cleans all equipment to ensure infection control
- Consults regularly with the Medical Director regarding patient studies
- Maintains standards for completeness of Continuous Quality Improvement and Quality Control measurements
- Orients and trains new Sleep Lab employees
- Establishes and implements performance improvements including education and staff development
- Communicates concerns and or problems with possible solutions to the Department Manager or Director
- Maintains a current and complete Policy and Procedure Manual
