The AM/PM Kitchen Supervisor role at Catholic Charities is a vital position focused on food service operations within Samaritan House, one of the organization’s key shelter services. This full-time supervisory role is pivotal in planning, preparing, and overseeing the production and serving of daily meals to residents, volunteers, staff, and interns. The Kitchen Supervisor is responsible for maintaining high standards of food safety, sanitation, and hygiene while managing all facets of kitchen operations including menu planning, inventory management, and budget adherence in alignment with grant and client needs. The supervisor works closely with the Food Services Manager to ensure compliance with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and the Child and Adult Care Food Program guidelines.

Responsibilities include staff management such as scheduling, training, and performance evaluation, as well as volunteer coordination to support kitchen tasks. The incumbent is expected to demonstrate leadership skills that reflect the values and mission of Catholic Charities, promoting an environment of dignity and respect for all. The role requires creativity and innovation in menu development, the ability to manage food costs effectively, and a commitment to maintaining an organized and safe kitchen environment. Additional duties involve administrative tasks related to food service operations, equipment maintenance requests, and supporting agency-wide goals beyond kitchen management when necessary.

Job Requirements

  • Equivalent of four years related managerial kitchen experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • obtain Serve Safe Certificate within 30 days of hire
  • valid Colorado driver’s license preferred but not required
  • ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos
  • ability to write simple correspondence
  • ability to effectively present information one-on-one and in small groups
  • ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization
  • ability to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • valid Colorado driver’s license, satisfactory driving record, and proof of insurance required
  • ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • ability to use commercial kitchen equipment and cleaning chemicals safely
  • availability for local travel for donation pickup and food ingredient shopping

Job Qualifications

  • Supervision and kitchen management experience in institutional and/or restaurant setting
  • demonstrated knowledge of commercial food preparation, production sanitation, and safety standards
  • demonstrated ability to safely use commercial grade kitchen equipment
  • ability to effectively lead and motivate staff through application of agency values
  • ability to function independently and maintain self-sufficiency with minimal supervision
  • excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • flexibility and willingness to shift priorities
  • basic computer skills in Microsoft Office suite
  • knowledge of service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics
  • ability to interact effectively as a team member and independently with agency staff and diverse client base

Job Duties

  • Implement program objectives while overseeing kitchen staff and kitchen volunteers
  • set schedules for kitchen staff and coordinate volunteer needs
  • make maintenance requests as needed for kitchen equipment
  • create menus to meet client and grant needs within the required timeframe
  • ensure appropriate levels of inventory including food, kitchen, and janitorial supplies
  • work with warehouse to utilize approved donations as budget supplementation
  • write and oversee labor schedule for kitchen
  • enforce CDPHE-CACFP guidelines for food handling and claims submission
  • manage storage of food products and materials
  • prepare and execute menus for special agency events
  • monitor sanitation and safety standards in the kitchen
  • carry out supervisory responsibilities including interviewing, hiring, training, appraising, rewarding, disciplining, addressing complaints, and resolving problems
  • monitor costing of raw materials
  • monitor portion control, waste, and inventory levels
  • oversee volunteers in food service tasks
  • complete necessary administrative duties timely and accurately
  • support and adhere to Catholic Charities’ vision, mission, values, and Code of Ethics
  • maintain confidentiality of client and agency information
  • maintain regular and predictable attendance
