The PLC Controls Leader role at Hostess Manufacturing Facility offers an exciting career opportunity for professionals skilled in industrial power and control systems. This position is 100% on-site and demands flexibility, with a standard day shift from 6AM to 6PM and readiness to work off-shifts including nights, weekends, or holidays as required by operational flow. As the primary administrator and troubleshooter for plant power and control systems, the Controls Leader plays a crucial role in ensuring system reliability and equipment optimization. The individual will work closely with site leadership and technical teams to maintain and enhance electrical and instrumentation systems, promote compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and lead skill development initiatives for technicians.

This position offers a dynamic and challenging work environment where the leader is involved in a wide range of responsibilities, including system design, installation oversight, troubleshooting, and ongoing support of PLC-based hardware and software. They will develop sustainable programs for E&I skill enhancement, collaborate on control standards, and act as a key influencer in plant reliability and efficiency improvements. They will also be responsible for validating and managing operating data from PLCs and ensuring that power consumption is optimized through continuous monitoring and data analysis.

Job Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required
  • 2 years of relevant controls experience is required
  • 5 years of manufacturing experience is required
  • Strong knowledge of machine and process control hardware, instrumentation, and software including Allen Bradley PLC and Rockwell FactoryTalk platforms
  • Effective presentation, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Willingness to work off shift including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to lift objects up to 50 pounds frequently
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with loud noise levels
  • Regularly able to talk and hear
  • Frequently able to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, and reach with hands and arms
  • Occasionally able to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • Specific vision abilities including close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years relevant controls experience
  • At least 5 years manufacturing experience
  • Strong knowledge of machine and process control hardware and software including Allen Bradley PLC and Rockwell FactoryTalk
  • Effective presentation and communication skills
  • Preferred bachelor's degree
  • Preferred mechanical and electrical experience in food manufacturing
  • Leadership and influencing experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite
  • Experience with plant systems software such as Proficy, Project Management, eAM
  • Understanding of technical systems and terminology
  • Experience with equipment installation and start-up in food manufacturing
  • Proven maintenance systems results

Job Duties

  • Serve as primary administrator and troubleshooter for plant power and control systems
  • Build and maintain a sustainable system for plant E&I skill development
  • Coach on skill assessment and development of technicians
  • Develop power and control standards and ensure their application
  • Ensure compliance with local and national regulatory codes
  • Validate operating data from PLC into MES systems
  • Own and maintain site sustainability metering equipment
  • Use power monitoring data to develop plans to reduce consumption and costs
  • Provide expertise in the design and implementation of machine control and process automation
  • Identify losses relating to safety, quality, reliability, and cost and develop elimination strategies
  • Own key elements for systems related to power and control
  • Support installation and start-up of new equipment
  • Provide engineering support on capital initiatives
  • Assist with installation oversight
  • Start-up and debug machines
  • Execute wireless communication systems for manufacturing
  • Create system map layouts, sequence operations, PLC logic, and HMI screens
  • Provide daily support throughout the plant
  • Extend start-up support and training for control systems
  • Learn and apply advanced control and simulation technologies
  • Troubleshoot and eliminate control systems issues
  • Handle controls projects and ensure technician training
