Job Description
Airgas, a subsidiary of Air Liquide, is a leading supplier in the United States specializing in industrial, medical, and specialty gases, as well as hardgoods and safety products. Established as a reputable company, Airgas is recognized for its dedication to cultivating a culture centered on safety, innovation, and customer success. With a workforce of approximately 18,000 associates, Airgas operates as an integral part of Air Liquide, a global leader in gases, technologies, and services for industrial and healthcare sectors, present in over 60 countries with around 66,500 employees serving more than 4 million customers and patients worldwide.
The company fosters a diverse and inclusive workplace where the unique backgrounds and perspectives of employees are valued and considered essential to its innovation and performance. Airgas is committed to equal opportunity, welcoming applicants regardless of race, color, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic, ensuring a supportive environment where employees can thrive and contribute meaningfully.
The position available is for a Plant Operator/Backup Shuttle Driver located in Appleton, Wisconsin, working within Airgas’s industrial gas filling plant. This role encompasses dual responsibilities that are vital to the operational success of the facility. The Plant Operator is primarily responsible for safely filling high-pressure industrial and medical gas cylinders through temperature and pressure methods, operating and maintaining pumping equipment and pressure gauges, conducting rigorous inspections for quality and safety, and ensuring compliance records are accurately maintained.
Additionally, the role of Backup Shuttle Driver involves serving as a relief driver delivering compressed gases and hard goods to local branch locations. This includes safely operating delivery trucks loaded with cylinders and other products, performing pre-and post-trip vehicle inspections, loading and unloading goods, and keeping detailed delivery manifests. The operator is also expected to assist with inventory management and plant housekeeping duties when not engaged in driving responsibilities.
This position offers a Monday through Friday day shift schedule, fostering work-life balance for the successful candidate. Airgas is proud to offer comprehensive family benefits including medical, dental, vision, life, accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D), and disability insurance. Employees receive a 14-week paid childbirth benefit to support growing families and enjoy future security through a 401(k) retirement plan with company matching, tuition assistance, paid holidays, vacation, and sick time. Benefits become effective after just 30 days of employment, demonstrating the company’s commitment to early support for its workforce.
Ideal candidates will possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and medical examiner’s card, hazmat and airbrake certifications, and at least one year of prior Class A professional driving experience with a clean driving record. Physical requirements include the ability to lift significant weight ranges routinely and occasionally, and the stamina to drive hazardous cargo for extended periods. The role demands a strong sense of responsibility and independence, with the capacity to work under pressure to meet deadlines. Forklift certification is also a requisite for the position.
Airgas invites candidates to join their team for a rewarding career where contributions are recognized and personal growth is encouraged. The company’s inclusive culture supports diversity and offers numerous benefits and opportunities for career advancement within a stable industry. As part of Airgas, the successful candidate will be integral in ensuring the safe and efficient production and delivery of essential gases and products, helping the company maintain its status as a leader in the supply industry while advancing their own professional development.
