Job Description

Airgas, an Air Liquide company, is a leading U.S. supplier of industrial, medical, and specialty gases, along with hardgoods and related products. It stands as one of the largest U.S. suppliers of safety products and a prominent provider of ammonia products and process chemicals. With a workforce of 18,000 associates, Airgas fosters a dynamic culture rooted in safety, customer success, sustainability, and innovation. The company emphasizes the empowerment of its employees to share ideas, take initiative, and make decisions, creating an environment where each voice counts and each role contributes to overall success. As a subsidiary of Air Liquide, a global leader operating in 60 countries and serving millions of customers and patients, Airgas benefits from extensive resources and a broad reach across the industry.

At the Ann Arbor, MI retail shop, Airgas is actively seeking a Plant Operator/Backup Local Delivery Driver with a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL A). This full-time, Monday through Friday day shift role offers a competitive pay rate of $29.52 per hour and is ideal for candidates who take pride in the safe handling, loading, delivery, and maintenance of high-pressure and cryogenic gas cylinders. The successful candidate will be dedicated to adhering to hazardous material safety standards and thorough Department of Transportation (DOT) vehicle inspections, ensuring compliance and safety at all times.

In this dual-role position, the Plant Operator/Backup Delivery Driver is responsible for safely loading, delivering, and unloading gas cylinders and related products onto route trucks and at customer locations, managing the preparation of high-pressure, medical, and liquid cylinders, including cryogenic vessels. Responsibilities also include performing basic maintenance on cylinders such as inspection, painting, and labeling, monitoring and assisting with inventory management, and maintaining customer relations through effective communication and resolution of service inquiries or complaints.

Vehicle safety is a paramount duty: conducting detailed pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, documenting any deficiencies, and verifying that all safety equipment is functional. The role additionally involves ensuring the facility is kept neat, clean, and orderly, contributing to operational efficiency and workplace safety.

Working at Airgas means joining a workplace that respects, honors, and values diversity. The company is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment that embraces the unique perspectives of its employees, customers, patients, and community stakeholders. Airgas promotes equal employment opportunities and supports a drug-free workplace, safety regulations, and the capability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. This role requires physical capability to routinely lift or move 25 to 75 pounds and occasionally lift above 100 pounds, reinforcing the hands-on and active nature of the job.

This career opportunity is supported by comprehensive benefits, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, short-term and long-term disability insurance, life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance, an Employee Assistance Program, parental leave, vacation, sick leave, floating holidays, jury duty, funeral/bereavement leave, and paid holidays. Compatible with employee development, Airgas offers 401k plans with company matching, tuition reimbursement programs, discounted college tuition for employees' dependents, and scholarship opportunities. If you are seeking a stimulating experience where your contributions matter and your growth is supported, this position at Airgas in Ann Arbor offers a fulfilling path with a respected industry leader.
