The company is currently seeking a Plant Operator/Backup Delivery Driver with a valid CDL A license for their Lansing, Michigan location specializing in filling industrial gases. This is a full-time, hourly position paying $30.34 per hour, with work scheduled Monday through Friday on the day shift. The role also includes safety driver bonuses paid quarterly, gainshare bonuses, and a comprehensive family benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, life, AD&D, and disability insurance. As a Plant Operator/Backup Delivery Driver, the successful candidate will take pride in safely loading, delivering, and handling high-pressure and cryogenic gas cylinders while adhering to hazardous material safety standards and Department of Transportation vehicle inspection requirements. The position demands meticulous attention to safety, compliance with government and company standards, and a proactive approach to maintaining vehicle and equipment condition.

Key responsibilities include safely loading and delivering gas cylinders and related products onto route trucks and at customer locations, preparing cryogenic vessels for filling, performing basic cylinder maintenance like inspection, painting, and labeling, managing inventory quantities and types, and ensuring plant cleanliness and orderliness. Vehicle maintenance duties include thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections with proper documentation of deficiencies. In addition, the role involves fostering strong customer relations and handling service inquiries or complaints professionally.

This position suits a detail-oriented individual with strong verbal and written communication skills, who meets stringent safety and regulatory requirements. Candidates should possess a valid Class A Driver's License, a valid Medical Examiner's Card, and must have or obtain a hazmat endorsement within 90 days of hire. Applicants must be at least 21 years old and have a minimum of one year of verifiable commercial driving experience within the last five years. Preferred qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, experience in the gas, welding, or safety supply industry, forklift and warehouse experience, and familiarity with touch freight delivery.

Job Duties

  • Safely load, deliver, and unload gas cylinders and related products onto route trucks and at customer locations
  • Manage high-pressure, medical, and liquid cylinders, including preparing cryogenic vessels for filling
  • Perform basic maintenance such as inspecting, painting, and labeling cylinders
  • Monitor cylinder quantities and styles and assist with inventory management
  • Adhere to all government and company standards regarding safe handling of hazardous materials and cylinder gases
  • Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, documenting any deficiencies
  • Maintain positive customer relationships and resolve service inquiries or complaints effectively
  • Ensure the plant remains neat, clean, and orderly
