The Plant Operator / Backup Delivery Driver position at Airgas in Cleveland, OH, is a vital role that supports both the operational and delivery functions of the organization. This hybrid role requires an individual who is reliable, safety-conscious, and customer-focused. The starting pay ranges from $26.50 to $27.50 per hour, with the potential for a quarterly bonus, and it offers a Monday through Friday, day-shift schedule, promoting a healthy work-life balance.

In this role, you will operate from an Airgas branch or plant, managing the flow of compressed gas cylinders by driving a company-provided straight or box truck. Your responsibilities will include safe loading, delivery, and unloading of cylinders to various customer locations, both internal and external. You will be an Airgas Ambassador, building lasting relationships with customers while maintaining safety and compliance with federal regulations such as DOT, EPA, FMCSA, FDA, and OSHA. The position also includes responsibilities to assist with warehouse duties and handle records accurately for deliveries and pickups.

This position is ideal for professionals with a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License and Hazmat endorsement (or willingness to obtain one). The job requires a clean driving record and relevant professional driving experience, coupled with the physical ability to lift heavy loads and handle material safely. Job Requirements

  • Valid Class A or B commercial driver's license
  • Valid Medical Examiner's Card
  • Hazmat endorsement or willingness to obtain
  • At least one year of prior Class A or B professional driving experience within the last five years
  • Clean driving record with no more than two convictions or two at-fault accidents in the last three years
  • Minimum age of 21 years or older
  • Ability to read and understand material safety data sheets
  • Physical ability to lift 25 to 75 pounds regularly and occasionally over 125 pounds with material handling equipment
  • Ability to drive hazardous cargo safely for extended periods
  • Ability to work independently and manage pressure to meet deadlines
  • Must obtain forklift operator certification

  • Ability to drive hazardous cargo for up to 8 hours
  • Ability to work independently and handle pressure to meet deadlines
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Forklift operator certification or ability to obtain

Job Duties

  • Safely load, deliver, and unload cylinders containing compressed gases to customer locations
  • Accurately record deliveries and pick-ups on a load manifest, obtain customer signatures
  • Collect empty, rejected, or unsold cylinders and return them to a plant or branch
  • Adhere to all safety standards and government regulations including DOT, EPA, FMCSA, FDA, and OSHA
  • Provide warehouse support and assistance on the dock as needed
  • Build lasting relationships with customers
  • Operate company-provided straight or box truck for deliveries
