The role of Plant Mechanic within the Facility Operations team is a vital position that ensures the hospital's infrastructure runs efficiently and safely. This is a full-time position with varied shifts, including night shifts from 10 PM to 6:30 AM Monday through Friday, with an 18% night shift differential as well as day shifts from 6 AM to 2:30 PM Sunday through Thursday. A $5,000 sign-on bonus is currently available for qualified applicants, underscoring the importance of this role within the health facility.

As a Plant Mechanic, you will employ your knowledge of plant operations to maintain critical hospital equipment such as chillers, cooling towers, boilers, air handling units, and the building management system (BMS). Your daily responsibilities include preventive maintenance, repairs, and monitoring equipment performance using modern instrumentation and computer systems. This position demands a high level of technical skill combined with strong independent decision-making capabilities, as the maintenance of utility and infrastructure systems directly impacts the comfort and safety of patients and clinical staff.

You will work as part of a diverse team of technicians, supporting the hospital’s mission by ensuring all mechanical systems are reliable and efficient. Emergency response readiness as part of the Fire Response Team is also a critical component of the job. Additional duties include assisting with energy conservation programs, keeping detailed logs of maintenance activities, and adhering to safety standards governing plant operations and healthcare facilities. Job Requirements

  • Vocational or technical training
  • At least 1 year of plant mechanic experience
  • Working knowledge of utility and infrastructure systems common to healthcare
  • Ability to exercise independent decision-making and judgment

Job Duties

  • Operate and assist in the proper maintenance and repairs of power plant and facility utilities equipment and systems
  • Maintain and repair steam/hot water boilers, centrifugal/reciprocating chillers, and cooling towers
  • Maintain all pumped systems including chilled water, condensate water, domestic hot and cold water, heating hot water, condensate, sewage ejector, medical air, vacuum, mechanical air, and fuel oil
  • Perform and maintain plant water treatment programs
  • Assist in operating emergency generator system, fire monitoring and control systems
  • Participate in energy management and conservation programs
  • Perform preventative maintenance duties on plant equipment and machinery
  • Maintain detailed logs and records of all shift activity
  • Respond to general maintenance and emergency calls
  • Assist as a member of the Fire Response Team
  • Clean assigned work area and maintain tools and storage areas in orderly manner
  • Drive company vehicles to transport equipment and maintenance personnel as assigned
  • Work independently under general supervision using specialized skills and knowledge
  • Interact with staff, co-workers, patients, physicians, visitors, regulatory agencies, inspections, contractors, and vendors
  • Maintain safety standards and comply with regulations
