The role of Planner/Scheduler II at Benchmark is a critical position within the Supply Chain department, focused on efficient planning and scheduling to support production and delivery goals. This full-time role, based in Huntsville, Alabama, operates during the day shift, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The Planner/Scheduler II is responsible for loading schedules, releasing orders according to supply chain processes, and monitoring the progress of planned and released orders through shipment and invoice payment phases. The role involves proactive issue resolution and expediting actions to prevent delays in schedules, ensuring smooth and timely delivery of products.
This position supports the Supply Chain Analyst by performing detailed planning functions, making recommendations, and helping drive process improvements that optimize workflow and production efficiency. The Planner/Scheduler II mentors other schedulers, communicates changes in forecasts and production schedules, and adjusts schedules considering factors like lot sizes, lead times, inventory levels, and assembly requirements. Acting as a key liaison, the role coordinates with multiple departments including production, engineering, shipping, and purchasing to manage priorities, part shortages, and engineering changes while maintaining adherence to customer expectations and company goals.
Additionally, the Planner/Scheduler II handles return material authorizations and manages the process related to returned products, including routing, cost analysis, and tracking. The position requires strong analytical skills, proficiency with enterprise resource planning (ERP) tools such as Baan or equivalents, and a thorough understanding of order processes from receipt through shipment and invoicing. Benchmark places high value on candidates who demonstrate effective decision-making, organizational abilities, and communication skills, along with the capability to independently address complex supply chain challenges.
The role also entails participation in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance planning and scheduling procedures, thus contributing to Benchmark’s mission for operational excellence. Job Requirements
- Four year degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Five plus years of experience in planning and scheduling
- Proficiency in ERP tools such as Baan or equivalent
- Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in supply chain decisions
- Strong planning, analytical, problem solving and organizational skills
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Ability to handle returned product following appropriate handling and ESD guidelines
- Demonstrated confidentiality and professional representation of the company
- Ability to mentor coworkers and operate on diverse project teams
- Willingness to participate in continuous improvement with full documentation
- Ability to exercise discretion when representing the company
- Understanding of order receipt, material procurement, order release, assembly, shipment, and invoice payment processes
- Knowledge of return debits, credits, receipt and routing generation, process feedback system entry and order release, cost analysis, invoicing and shipment processes
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Perform planning functions and make recommendations and or decisions to support the supply chain analyst
- Provide mentorship for other schedulers in the department
- Assist in driving key initiatives for process improvement
- Perform scenario analyses to aid in optimal scheduling, priorities and decision making
- Communicate forecast and production schedule changes to master planner and supply chain analysts
- Modify schedules due to considerations of lot sizes, lead times, inventory levels, efficient timely production utilization, and subassembly merge with final assembly requirements
- Act as a focal point for production, product engineering, kit pull, shipping, and purchasing for any issues related to priorities, holds, throughput or capacity issues, part shortages, or engineering changes on released orders
- Participate on the customer team as the planning department representative
- Support department, business unit, and divisional goals
- Assist supply chain management or supply chain analyst regarding development of or changes to planning or scheduling processes
- Provide analysis and management of work in progress, finished goods, and component inventory levels in accordance with the supply chain analyst
- Assist other team members to ensure customer needs are met
- Act as the primary customer contact for all return issues
- Process return material authorization, return routing changes, return receipt and issue, return cost analysis, and tracking of returns through shipment and invoicing per defined guidelines
- Provide mentorship to others in the planning activity
- Work with multi-level bill of materials
- Display strong analytic skills with forecast loads and clear to build analysis
