We are currently seeking enthusiastic, hardworking, and reliable Pizza Makers to join our team at our full-service casual restaurant in Darien, IL. The role of Pizza Maker is fundamental to our operation, requiring attention to detail, quality standards, and adherence to established recipes and standard operating procedures (SOP). As a Pizza Maker, you will be responsible for making delicious and visually appealing pizzas that meet our brand’s high standards. This role demands flexibility with working hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, ensuring that our guests enjoy great food no matter when they visit.

The position offers an exciting opportunity to become part of a team dedicated to excellence in food preparation within a fast-paced environment. You will be involved in various aspects of pizza preparation, starting from ingredient stocking and preparation, to handling dough with proper proofing and stretching techniques. Cooking pizzas correctly and monitoring their quality throughout the cooking process will be key responsibilities, ensuring every pizza that leaves the kitchen reflects the quality Home Run Inn customers expect. Maintaining a clean and safe work environment and following food safety and sanitation practices are crucial components of the role. Pizza Makers will also assist in inventory processes, stock rotation using FIFO methods, and general kitchen upkeep. This dynamic role requires physical stamina, including the ability to work on your feet for several hours and safely lift and handle ingredients and supplies.

Job Requirements

  • Be at least 16 years of age or older to operate kitchen equipment
  • Flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays (4pm-close)
  • Ability to lift, reach, bend and stoop constantly
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 5 hours)
  • Frequently lift bags, cases, and stack weight up to 50 pounds with assistance
  • Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation practices
  • Obtain Food Handler certification within 30 days of being hired
  • Safety shoes required prior to first shift

  • Previous experience in food preparation or similar role preferred but not required
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Job Duties

  • Stock and prepare necessary food ingredients and dry goods needed for pizza preparation
  • Read order tickets for appropriate ingredients to utilize
  • Stretch and prepare edges of the pizza crust
  • Measure and apply ingredients to pizza
  • Cook pizza by placing in oven, monitoring the cooking process, take pizza out of oven and slice
  • Clean pizza ovens, meat tables and all food prep machines on a regular basis
  • Move food and beverage stock when necessary and assist in inventory process
  • Monitor quality of food and spoilage
  • Rotate perishable stock items based on FIFO method of inventory
  • Follow SOPs of pizza preparation adhering to specified weights, measures, portioning techniques and safe food handling practices
  • Follow specific SOP of dough handling regarding proper proofing time and stretching techniques
  • Be able to perform opening and closing duties as assigned
  • Use kitchen and cooking appliances and equipment
  • Follow safety rules and keep work area in a clean and orderly condition
  • Work from verbal and written orders
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
