The Antarctic Support Contract (ASC) operates under the auspices of the National Science Foundation (NSF) managing and supporting the United States Antarctic Program (USAP). The ASC is currently seeking a dedicated and skilled Insulator for a seasonal full-time contract position. This role is instrumental in maintaining the various infrastructure systems with the primary focus on insulation for piping, walls, heat trace systems, and other surfaces within the facilities. Working under the supervision of the Assistant Facilities Maintenance Supervisor, the Insulator will perform essential maintenance, repair, and construction tasks to ensure the integrity of insulation systems crucial for thermal efficiency and protection against the extreme climatic conditions of Antarctica.

The position demands hands-on skills in applying, repairing, and removing insulation materials, including fabricating metal sheathing for pipe insulation. Timely response to emergency service calls and the ability to perform work outdoors in severe weather conditions, including intense cold and wind, are critical components of the job duties. Additionally, the Insulator will collaborate closely with other departments to coordinate and complete assigned tasks and ensure compliance with the Antarctic Support Contract’s Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH), Waste Management, and Quality Assurance requirements.

This role requires a high level of accuracy in documenting work activities, materials used, and hours worked, often utilizing computer-based labor, inventory, and maintenance tracking systems. Candidates must be proactive problem solvers capable of sound judgment and decision-making to work safely in this demanding environment. The job may entail deployment to remote research support facilities and requires an ability to adapt to extended periods living and working under isolated and challenging conditions.

The position offers a competitive weekly pay rate of $1,520 and includes valuable benefits such as 401(k) retirement savings plan, dental, health, and vision insurance.
