The role of a Prep Cook at Flanigan's is vital to the overall success of the kitchen and the dining experience. Prep Cooks are responsible for organizing and preparing all ingredients before and during service hours, guaranteeing that every station is fully stocked and ready to meet demand. This includes tasks such as chopping, breaking down, cutting, weighing, mixing, washing, storing, unloading deliveries, and assisting with all prep work required to keep the kitchen running like a well-oiled machine. The Prep Cook position requires a keen eye for detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work efficiently under pressure. Additionally, Prep Cooks must follow company safety and sanitation policies to maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment.

This position requires flexibility, as shifts may include nights, weekends, and holidays, ensuring that the kitchen remains fully operational at all times. Physical stamina is necessary, as Prep Cooks stand or walk for the entirety of their shift and perform activities such as lifting heavy items and handling hot or sharp kitchen tools safely. The role also involves effective communication with kitchen staff and management to maintain food flow and handle any potential issues promptly. Those hired will complete food safety certification programs in compliance with Flanigan's and state regulations to uphold the highest standards of hygiene and food handling.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • previous kitchen or food preparation experience preferred
  • ability to follow directions precisely

  • must be able to lift heavy objects safely

Job Qualifications

  • Able to work flexible shift schedule which may include nights, weekends, and/or holidays
  • can physically stand/walk 100% of shift
  • can reach, bend, stoop
  • ability to speak, read and write English
  • able to read recipes and food labels
  • able to read POS ticket orders
  • communicates ticket times, executes food flow from kitchen to guests, and reports potential issues to Manager on duty
  • able to safely use kitchen machinery (open flame grill, stove, slicer, etc)
  • work safely with hot plates, pots, pans
  • work safely with sharp knives and utensils
  • able to lift up to 50 lbs. several times per shift, lift these heavy loads to high shelves, coolers, freezers
  • ability to hold items weighing up to 5 lbs. for long periods of time
  • work in high temperature, damp environment indoors and minimally outdoors
  • assist fellow employees with dishwashing and cleaning as needed
  • complete and pass food safety certification program in compliance with Flanigan's and Florida statutes

Job Duties

  • Follows all company safety and sanitation policies and procedural training
  • prepares menu items according to Flanigan's company recipe manual and plate presentation
  • ensures rotation of all products and stocks products to par level to ensure kitchen is not disrupted
  • helps complete assigned prep work to stock and set up stations as necessary
  • transports items to and from kitchen and helps Vendor unload delivery trucks
  • cleans and maintains kitchen area throughout shift
  • breaks down and cleans all stations at closing
