Job Description
An established health system in Savannah, Georgia, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Cardiothoracic Surgeon to serve as the Medical Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery. This position is a full-time, employed leadership opportunity within a well-established cardiovascular service line that boasts a strong referral network and advanced surgical capabilities. The health system provides a robust clinical and operational environment supported by multidisciplinary teams, including cardiologists, vascular surgeons, anesthesiologists, intensivists, and advanced practice providers. The comprehensive program benefits from access to cutting-edge facilities such as cardiac catheterization labs, hybrid operating rooms, and dedicated ICU support, ensuring the highest level of patient care.
The role of Medical Director combines clinical excellence with strategic oversight, emphasizing both hands-on cardiothoracic surgical practice and leadership responsibilities to develop and expand the heart and vascular program. The Medical Director will perform a broad spectrum of cardiothoracic surgical procedures while leading quality improvement initiatives, ensuring patient safety, and overseeing clinical protocols and performance metrics. Collaboration with other specialties including cardiology, vascular surgery, anesthesia, and critical care is a key aspect of this role, fostering a multidisciplinary approach to cardiovascular care.
This leadership position also involves mentoring and supporting physicians, advanced practice providers, and surgical staff to maintain high standards of clinical care and professional development. The Medical Director will work closely with hospital leadership to drive program growth, enhance operational efficiency, and support physician recruitment and retention efforts. This includes strategic planning and execution to expand the program’s reach and service line offerings.
The position offers competitive compensation that includes a base salary with a leadership stipend, productivity and quality incentives, as well as benefits such as a sign-on bonus, relocation assistance, comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance, malpractice coverage with tail, retirement plans, and a CME allowance. The supportive leadership and collaborative culture of the health system empower the Medical Director to influence clinical research, academic involvement if desired, and comprehensive patient care strategies.
