Job Description

The Nationally Ranked University System in the Midwest is renowned for its commitment to excellence in education, clinical care, and research across various healthcare disciplines. Its College of Dentistry and affiliated healthcare system have established themselves as leaders in oral health, offering top-tier dental education and advanced patient care services. The institution prides itself on fostering innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and community engagement to improve oral health outcomes regionally and nationally. By aligning academic rigor with clinical expertise, this university system offers a dynamic and supportive environment for healthcare professionals dedicated to advancing their fields.

The College of Dentistry is currently seeking a Clinical Chief of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, a pivotal leadership role designed for an experienced and visionary oral and maxillofacial surgeon. This position encompasses a blend of hands-on clinical practice, strategic program leadership, and significant academic responsibilities within a highly respected institution. The successful candidate will lead the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) division, directing faculty, residents, and clinical programs with a focus on maintaining clinical excellence and advancing research initiatives.

This role involves close collaboration with hospital leadership, dental school faculty, and interdisciplinary teams specializing in trauma care, oncology, and reconstructive surgery. The Clinical Chief is expected to balance responsibilities, dedicating approximately 60 percent of time to clinical duties, 20 percent to administrative and leadership functions, and 20 percent to academic community engagement or research activities. A major component of the position is program development, where the Clinical Chief will drive growth in clinical services, enhance teaching programs, and support innovative research aligned with institutional goals.

Mentorship and education are key priorities in this role, requiring the Clinical Chief to serve as a role model for residents and fellows while fostering a culture of excellence, professionalism, and collaboration. The position offers a competitive academic compensation package commensurate with experience and includes comprehensive benefits, a retirement plan, CME support, relocation assistance, and potential performance-based incentives. Protected time for scholarly and administrative activities is also provided to support the individual’s academic growth and leadership effectiveness.

Situated in a vibrant community with convenient access to a major international airport and metropolitan amenities, the location offers a unique blend of historic charm and modern culture. The area features diverse dining options, arts, and recreational opportunities, along with outstanding public and private schools, affordable housing, and numerous outdoor activities such as parks, lakes, hiking, biking, and weekend getaways in the scenic Bluegrass and Knobs regions. This opportunity not only delivers professional fulfillment but also offers an exceptional quality of life for the successful candidate and their family.
