Job Description
Baylor Scott & White Health is the largest not-for-profit healthcare system in Texas, committed to promoting the well-being of individuals, families, and communities. The organization emphasizes core values such as faithful service with a joyful heart, relentless pursuit of improvement, collective support, and impactful initiatives to deliver an exceptional healthcare experience. With a robust network and extensive resources, Baylor Scott & White Health continues to empower people to live healthier lives through comprehensive and compassionate care.
This position is for a Physician Assistant (PA) in Primary Care within a large and well-established clinic that includes approximately 20 Family Medicine providers. The clinic operates mainly Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM, with flexible scheduling options that include a potential for four 10-hour shifts per week. The daily patient load averages around 18, allowing for a manageable yet impactful caseload. The clinic follows an Enhanced Care Team (ECT) model, fostering strong interdisciplinary collaboration among providers. Dedicated support includes a Medical Assistant, a shared Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), Registered Nurse (RN), Social Worker, and Front Desk personnel to ensure smooth operations and high-quality patient care.
The role of the Physician Assistant here involves a mix of clinical responsibilities such as seeing new patients, conducting follow-ups, and managing acute visits. Providers are expected to handle in-basket communications both individually and in shared formats, contributing to effective patient care coordination. Opportunities for performing office procedures like Pap smears are available, with additional procedures offered for those keen on expanding their clinical skills. The position is designed to be supportive, especially for new graduates, with structured onboarding that spans 12 to 18 months of transition support and ongoing mentorship from supervising physicians and APP leadership. This ensures continuous professional development and quality improvement.
Physician Assistants at Baylor Scott & White Health are licensed, certified, and have prescriptive authority, working independently within the scope of practice defined by their supervising physicians. They provide comprehensive patient care based on evidence-based medicine and established care standards, including physical and mental health assessments, diagnostic testing, and the creation and execution of treatment plans. Additionally, counseling patients and families about medical conditions, medication management, nutrition, and health promotion is an essential part of the role. Providers are also responsible for maintaining accurate medical records and initiating timely consultations or referrals when patient needs exceed their expertise.
The environment promotes a team-based approach to patient care, focusing on the management of both acute and chronic illnesses. The Physician Assistant position also offers moonlighting opportunities within the system, providing additional flexibility and professional growth. Benefits include immediate eligibility for health and welfare benefits, a 401(k) plan with a dollar-for-dollar match up to 5%, tuition reimbursement, and paid time off accrual beginning from day one, ensuring that employees are supported in all aspects of their professional and personal lives.
