As a leading healthcare provider, Baylor Scott & White Health employs a diverse team of professionals, including licensed and certified physician assistants (PAs) who play an integral role in delivering outpatient and specialty care. The role of a Physician Assistant in Medical Specialty Clinics at Baylor Scott & White Health is a challenging yet rewarding position that involves direct patient care and clinical responsibilities within a variety of medical specialties such as Palliative Care, Pulmonary, Infectious Disease, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Cardiology, Dermatology, Urology, Nephrology, Neurology, Hematology, Oncology, Allergy and Immunology, Rheumatology, among others.
This full-time outpatient position follows a Monday through Friday schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., typically managing the care of approximately 14 patients per day. The Physician Assistant works under the supervision of a physician but holds prescriptive authority and the ability to practice independently as credentialed, privileged, and billed providers by Medicare and Medicaid. The PA conducts comprehensive physical and mental health assessments, orders and interprets diagnostic tests, prescribes medications, and implements evidence-based treatment plans. The provider also performs invasive procedures specific to their scope of practice and counsels patients and families on treatment regimens, illness management, medication interactions, nutrition, and overall health promotion.

Job Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
- hold a current Physician Assistant license in Texas
- current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain within 30 days of hire
- certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
- less than 1 year of professional experience
- ability to perform comprehensive physical and mental health assessments
- ability to prescribe medications and perform procedures under protocols
- strong communication and interpersonal skills
- proficiency in healthcare technology and electronic medical records
Job Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program
- less than 1 year of relevant experience
- current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the state of Texas
- certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire or transfer
Job Duties
- Assess the physical and mental condition of patients by performing comprehensive or problem-focused physical examinations and medical histories
- order, collect, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and healthcare needs
- prescribe or recommend medical drug therapies or other treatments and perform procedures following approved protocols
- formulate and implement comprehensive patient treatment plans using evidence-based medicine and standards of care
- counsel patients and families on medical processes, illness management, medication, nutrition, and health promotion
- maintain detailed records of patients treatment plans and outcomes and initiate timely consultation and referral when necessary
- provide consultation services related to the provider's specialty and training
- manage patients in healthcare settings outside the primary clinic, such as inpatient, emergency, or procedural settings
- perform invasive procedures as delegated by supervising physician
- perform patient care duties beyond regular schedule when required based on coverage needs
