Job Description

Houston Methodist Specialty Physician Group is an integral part of Houston Methodist's overall strategy to become one of the nation's leading academic medical centers. Established as a nonprofit corporation certified by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners, the Specialty Physician Group enables physicians to maintain autonomy with respect to clinical practice while growing their practice within an academic environment. Houston Methodist is recognized for its commitment to clinical excellence, innovative research, and high-quality patient care within Texas and nationally. It is dedicated to advancing healthcare through a combination of skilled professionals, cutting-edge technology, and a collaborative clinical environment that supports continuous learning and professional growth. The group’s emphasis on multidisciplinary teamwork and patient-centered care ensures comprehensive treatment for a wide variety of complex health conditions, making it a premier institution for both providers and patients.

The Physician Assistant (PA) with Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification at Houston Methodist functions as an advanced practice practitioner, delivering diagnostic, therapeutic, surgical, and preventative care under the supervision of a licensed physician. This role involves patient examination, diagnosis, interpreting x-rays and lab results, prescribing medications, taking patient histories, providing surgical assistance, and ordering various therapies. The PA works in both inpatient and outpatient settings and may operate independently under physician supervision or as part of a treatment team. The role demands accountability for patient care outcomes consistent with the guidance of the Texas Board of Physician Assistant Examiners and Houston Methodist policies. The position is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The PA (ACLS) is integral in patient advocacy, clinical resource leadership, and interdisciplinary care coordination. Responsibilities include participating in hospital rounds, mentoring and coaching staff and students, ensuring compliance with safety protocols, and contributing to quality and departmental improvement projects. This position requires exceptional critical thinking skills, clinical judgment, strong organizational abilities, and outstanding communication skills to thrive in a dynamic healthcare environment. The role also involves contributing to clinical innovation, upholding professional standards, and mentoring colleagues, thus fostering a culture of continuous improvement in patient care and service quality. These comprehensive duties empower the Physician Assistant to significantly impact patient health outcomes while advancing Houston Methodist’s reputation for clinical excellence and academic leadership.
