Job Description

Walgreens is a leading pharmacy-led health and wellbeing company committed to providing exceptional healthcare services and products to communities across the United States. With thousands of stores nationwide, Walgreens stands at the forefront of the retail pharmacy industry, known for its customer-centric approach and innovative healthcare solutions. The company has evolved beyond traditional pharmaceutical services to embrace a comprehensive health and wellness strategy that supports patients not only with medications but also with expert advice, clinical services, and convenient healthcare options like in-store clinics and immunizations.

Walgreens values its pharmacy technicians as essential members of the healthcare delivery team and has transformed these roles from transaction-focused positions into dynamic, patient-focused opportunities. As a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, individuals become integral in fostering strong, lasting relationships with patients and customers. This role is centered on delivering personalized service and helping patients manage their prescriptions effectively and safely. Walgreens supports its pharmacy technicians by providing state-of-the-art technology, advanced training programs, and a collaborative work environment that encourages career growth.

The company is proud to offer an 'earn while you learn' Pharmacy Technician Training Program, recognized by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and the Department of Labor. This apprenticeship program serves as a gateway to a rewarding career in healthcare, offering structured guidance for individuals working towards becoming Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technicians. Participants receive comprehensive training, including both foundational knowledge and advanced pharmacy skills, along with hands-on experiences essential for certification and career advancement. The training program is ideal for those new to the pharmacy field as well as experienced technicians looking to enhance their credentials.

In this healthcare role, technicians assist pharmacists in complying with state and federal regulations while engaging with customers to provide excellent service and support. The responsibilities include using pharmacy systems to process prescriptions and manage patient data securely and accurately. Certified technicians also mentor other pharmacy staff and cashiers to help maintain smooth pharmacy operations. Walgreens emphasizes delivering a positive customer experience by encouraging technicians to greet customers warmly, resolve their questions and concerns, and uphold service excellence standards.

Pharmacy technicians are also involved in crucial operational tasks such as inventory management, error reporting, assisting with clinical services like sample collection, and supporting the pharmacy team in building strong partnerships with the local medical community. Walgreens values continuous learning and personal growth, offering ongoing education opportunities that keep technicians up-to-date with the latest developments in healthcare and pharmacy practice.

The role requires flexibility to work varying schedules, including evenings and weekends, and offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $18 to $21.50, depending on location and qualifications. Walgreens is an equal opportunity employer, committed to diversity and inclusion, and welcomes applicants with various backgrounds, including those with arrest or conviction records, ensuring equal access to career opportunities.
