Job Description
Walgreens is a leading pharmacy and retail health services provider founded in 1901, serving nearly 9 million customers and patients daily through its extensive network of approximately 8,500 stores across the United States and Puerto Rico. With a workforce of around 220,000 team members, including nearly 90,000 healthcare service providers, Walgreens is dedicated to being the first choice for pharmacy, retail, and health services. The company emphasizes building trusted relationships that foster healthier futures for customers, patients, team members, and the communities it serves. As a major player in the healthcare retail sector, Walgreens continually adapts to meet the evolving needs of its clientele by maintaining high standards of customer service, pharmaceutical care, and operational efficiency.
The Pharmacy Technician role at Walgreens involves performing data entry and patient registration in compliance with state and federal regulations. This position plays a critical role in ensuring that prescriptions are accurately processed and that third-party rejections are properly resolved. The role requires handling high volumes of customer inquiries, both inbound and outbound communications, and supporting pharmacists by providing essential assistance in pharmacy operations. Pharmacy Technicians follow standardized operating procedures and Walgreens' company policies to maintain consistent service quality.
This is an in-person position offering an hourly wage ranging from $16.50 to $22.00. Pharmacy Technicians are responsible for using pharmacy management systems to retrieve patient and drug information, process new patient registrations, and manage prescription refill orders within HIPAA guidelines. They must troubleshoot missing prescription information, interpret medical abbreviations (SIG codes), and manage exceptions related to data entry. Additionally, Pharmacy Technicians resolve third-party rejects by reviewing insurance details, contacting insurers for authorizations, and resubmitting claims. The role includes communicating effectively with patients, prescribers, and insurers by phone, chat, or email.
Candidates must obtain an active pharmacy technician license or certification within the first 90 days of employment and maintain licensure throughout their tenure. Walgreens values team members who demonstrate excellent communication skills, proficient computer use including keyboarding and internet navigation, and a commitment to customer service. Preferred qualifications include previous experience as a pharmacy technician in retail or call center settings, advanced keyboarding skills, and bilingual fluency in Spanish and English.
Working at Walgreens offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) matching program, paid time off, tuition reimbursement, employee assistance programs, and other valuable perks. This role is ideal for individuals seeking to develop their careers in a dynamic healthcare environment dedicated to patient care and operational excellence.
