Job Description
Walgreens is a leading pharmacy-led health and wellbeing company that has been serving communities across the United States and Puerto Rico since its founding in 1901. Operating approximately 8,000 stores and employing around 211,000 team members—including roughly 85,000 healthcare service providers—Walgreens is committed to being the first choice for pharmacy, retail, and health services. The company prides itself on building trusted relationships that promote healthier futures for customers, patients, team members, and communities through accessible and innovative healthcare solutions. Walgreens is well-known for its dedication to pharmacy excellence, patient care, and continuous professional development, making it a sought-after workplace for healthcare professionals who are passionate about making a difference in people’s lives.
The role of Pharmacist at Walgreens is a vital position within the company’s healthcare delivery model. Pharmacists at Walgreens are recognized as medication experts and trusted healthcare providers who play a crucial role in reshaping patient-focused care. With access to industry-leading resources, supportive team environments, and advancement opportunities, Walgreens invests significantly in its pharmacists to enable them to provide exceptional care. The employment type for this position is typically full-time or part-time with flexible scheduling options designed to accommodate individual lifestyles and work-life balance needs.
Pharmacists enjoy a competitive wage ranging from $60.90 to $82.30 per hour, reflecting differences based on geography and other business factors. Among the perks are paid time off (available after three months of service, subject to state law), comprehensive health and wellness benefits that include medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance, as well as voluntary benefits and wellness programs. Walgreens also supports family-forming efforts by offering financial assistance for fertility treatments and reimbursement for qualified adoption and surrogacy expenses.
Walgreens invests in the future growth and education of its pharmacists. Opportunities for advancement include leadership roles in pharmacy operations, retail management, multi-site leadership, and corporate support functions. Walgreens University provides free training, certifications, and leadership development, alongside tuition discounts at over 30 universities. Employees also receive generous discounts on Walgreens and national brands, plus savings on electronics, travel, and other perks. The 401(k) plan with company match and student loan payment matching further enhances financial security and retirement readiness.
In this role, Walgreens pharmacists provide compassionate and expert-level consulting services and education on medication usage, side effects, and cost-effective alternatives. They deliver clinical healthcare services such as immunizations, diagnostic testing, and medication therapy management, ensuring medication safety via accurate compounding, dispensing, and regulatory compliance. Mentoring and training pharmacy team members in a collaborative and supportive environment are also key responsibilities.
Ideal candidates are patient-focused and service-driven individuals committed to personalizing healthcare. They are collaborative leaders who inspire and support their teams, lifelong learners staying current on industry advancements, and adept problem-solvers who can navigate challenges ranging from insurance claims to medication management. Joining Walgreens as a pharmacist means becoming part of a company dedicated to providing meaningful care and creating healthier communities while building a rewarding and progressive career.
