Job Description
Walgreens is a leading pharmacy retail chain that has been serving communities across the United States and Puerto Rico since its founding in 1901. With approximately 8,000 stores and over 211,000 team members, including around 85,000 healthcare service providers, Walgreens is dedicated to being the first choice for pharmacy, retail, and health services. The company is deeply committed to building trusted relationships that foster healthier futures for customers, patients, team members, and communities alike. Walgreens offers a comprehensive work environment where employees are valued and supported to thrive within a culture focused on professional development, innovation in patient care, and community involvement.
This particular role invites passionate and skilled pharmacists to join Walgreens as key members of an expanding healthcare delivery team. Employed pharmacists at Walgreens are recognized as medication experts and trusted healthcare providers who play a critical role in reshaping patient-focused care. This position is designed not only to utilize the pharmacist's clinical expertise but to provide opportunities for leadership, professional growth, and engagement in cutting-edge pharmacy practices. Walgreens invests in its pharmacists by providing industry-leading resources, continuous training through Walgreens University, and a broad range of wellness and financial benefits that support a balanced and rewarding career.
The pharmacist role at Walgreens involves delivering compassionate and expert-level pharmacy consulting services to patients. Responsibilities include educating patients about medication usage, side effects, and cost-effective treatment options. Beyond traditional dispensing duties, the pharmacist delivers a full range of clinical healthcare services, including immunizations, diagnostic testing, and medication therapy management. This role demands strict adherence to medication safety standards through accurate compounding, dispensing, and regulatory compliance. Additionally, Walgreens emphasizes collaboration and mentorship, expecting pharmacists to support and train pharmacy team members in a positive and supportive environment.
Working at Walgreens offers a competitive pay structure that varies based on geography and other business factors, with a salary range for pharmacists between $60.90 and $82.30 an hour. Employees benefit from flexible scheduling options designed to accommodate diverse lifestyles and support a healthy work-life balance. Paid time off is available after three months of service in accordance with state laws, underscoring the company’s commitment to employee well-being.
In addition to competitive compensation, Walgreens provides a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance for qualifying team members. Wellness support extends to mental health through employee assistance programs offering resources such as 365 Get Healthy Here and Life365. Family-forming benefits demonstrate Walgreens' inclusive approach, offering financial support for fertility treatments, adoption, and surrogacy-related expenses.
Pharmacists at Walgreens are encouraged to pursue ongoing education and career development with access to free training, certifications, and leadership development programs through Walgreens University. Tuition discounts at more than 30 universities support academic advancement. Other exclusive perks include significant employee discounts on Walgreens and national brands, electronics, travel, and more. Additionally, Walgreens supports long-term financial security by offering a 401(k) plan with company matching contributions after one year of service and matching qualifying student loan payments as if they were 401(k) contributions.
The ideal candidate is patient-focused and service-driven, dedicated to making healthcare personal and accessible. They are collaborative leaders who inspire and uplift their teams, lifelong learners committed to staying current with industry advancements, and pragmatic problem-solvers adept at navigating challenges from insurance claims to complex medication management. This pharmacist position at Walgreens represents more than just a job – it is a career with purpose, growth, and meaningful impact on the health and well-being of communities nationwide.
