Job Description

Federal Express Corporation, commonly known as FedEx, is a leading multinational courier delivery services company headquartered in the United States. Established in 1971, FedEx has grown to become a global leader in express transportation, logistics solutions, and supply chain management. With a strong commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction, FedEx operates a vast network of hubs and logistics centers worldwide, providing dependable and timely shipping services. The company is known for its culture of excellence, diversity, and inclusion, supporting employees through extensive training and career development opportunities.

This role specifically pertains to a Preload Part-Time Package Handler (PH) and Switcher position at FedEx, working Tuesday through Saturday from 7:30 AM to 1:00 PM. The primary responsibility is to manage the movement of trailers within the yard—hooking and moving parked trailers to and from unload/load doors. The employee may also be involved in the physical loading, unloading, and sorting of packages by hand, involving lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying, and placing items safely and efficiently. The candidate will use the Yard Management System or switcher cards to document trailer movements and must perform pre- and post-trip inspections on switcher equipment.

The job demands adherence to rigorous safety protocols and effective communication with management and central control to coordinate trailer movements. Additionally, the candidate must be capable of handling packages utilizing “hand-to-surface” methods, loading and unloading packages from various transport and conveyor systems, and sorting them by scanning labels and verifying information. This role suits individuals who are adaptable to physically demanding tasks and fast-paced environments, with the ability to maintain safety and efficiency standards.

FedEx offers an hourly pay starting at $21.20 for this part-time role and is committed to equitable employment. The company encourages applications from veterans and individuals with disabilities and provides reasonable accommodations during the application process. The working environment may involve variable temperatures, exposure to fumes, and loud noises. Successful applicants must hold a valid driver’s license, maintain a Department of Transportation file, and possess strong interpersonal and communication skills to thrive in this dynamic team setting. FedEx is also a participant in the E-Verify employment eligibility verification program for U.S. applicants and employees, emphasizing compliance with federal employment regulations and providing transparency regarding employee rights.
