The Full-time Perfusionist position is an integral part of Christiana Care's dynamic Cardiac Surgery practice based at Christiana Hospital, Newark, DE, about 40 miles south of Philadelphia. The successful candidate will be joining a skilled team comprising six full-time and two part-time perfusionists, sharing call responsibilities in a 1:6 rotation. This role provides an exciting opportunity to work with state-of-the-art cardiovascular surgery technologies and a broad spectrum of cardiac surgical procedures including coronary artery bypass grafting, aortic and mitral valve repair and replacement, transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR), lead extraction, Mitraclip, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), ventricular assist devices (VAD), complex aortic procedures, and robotic coronary interventions.

The perfusionist will operate in an advanced clinical environment equipped with cutting-edge facilities and supported by a multidisciplinary team of experts. Christiana Care's cardiac surgery team performs nearly 1,000 procedures annually, affirming its status as a regional referral center for a wide array of cardiovascular specialties. The hospital’s expansive campus supports comprehensive care with high patient acuity and varied pathology.

The compensation range for this role is $73.09 to $116.94 per hour, with offers dependent upon the candidate's skills, experience, and qualifications. This position requires participation in holiday, overnight, and weekend call shifts, which will be further detailed during the interview. Job Requirements

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Reviews patient medical history and chart
  • determines, assembles and monitors equipment needed for cardiopulmonary bypass and other extracorporeal life support procedures
  • monitors patients’ blood temperature, composition and flow rate
  • ensures clinically efficient blood salvaging techniques
  • monitors blood gas and blood chemistry
  • monitors anticoagulation and hematological analysis
  • manages hemodilution and hemofiltration techniques
  • attends and participates in meetings, seminars and committees
  • educate and lecture on related perfusion subject material as dictated by the Chief Perfusionist
  • assist in the development, maintenance and enforcement of administrative and clinical policies and procedures
  • provide input towards the overall design and development of the department
  • assist in the development of performance improvement ideas
  • assist the Chief Perfusionist in overseeing point of care testing including training, management and quality control
  • assist with ordering and stocking of disposable items as well as management of annual preventive maintenance on equipment
