Job Description

The City of Mesa is a vibrant and forward-thinking municipality committed to fostering cultural enrichment through arts and community engagement. The Mesa Arts Center (MAC) plays a pivotal role in this mission by serving as a premier destination for performing arts, including music, comedy, theater, dance, fine arts, and co-presentations. As a multi-venue facility, the MAC strives to offer high-quality and diverse programming that appeals to a broad spectrum of audiences, reflecting the community's dynamic and inclusive spirit. This arts center is not only a cultural hub but also a municipal entity that values public service, community involvement, and sustainable fiscal management. The City of Mesa's commitment to employee values such as knowledge, respect, and integrity underscores its workplace culture and dedication to excellence in public service.

The Performing Live Program Manager at the Mesa Arts Center is a crucial leadership role responsible for the comprehensive management of live events within the center. This position involves overseeing the booking, contracting, managing, and settlement of all performances, ensuring that every event contributes to the artistic vitality and financial sustainability of the MAC. The role requires managing a detailed calendar of events, aligning budgets with strategic goals, and overseeing a broad array of live events ranging from concerts and comedy shows to theatrical productions and dance performances. The Program Manager works closely with the Deputy Director of Arts and Culture to develop and implement marketing, sales, and advertising strategies that increase visibility, attendance, and earned revenue.

In this role, the Program Manager cultivates and maintains strong relationships with industry stakeholders including artists, promoters, and booking agents both locally and internationally. They are responsible for researching and securing talent that fits the center’s diverse programming goals and community relevance. Additionally, the manager plays an instrumental part in fostering community partnerships and collaborations that enhance the MAC’s mission and outreach efforts. Supervisory responsibilities include managing and guiding the Event Services Coordinators and other assigned staff, ensuring efficient workflow, policy compliance, and high performance.

Apart from fiscal and operational management, the Performing Live Program Manager also represents the Mesa Arts Center at industry events and booking conferences, acting as an ambassador to expand the MAC’s presence and secure high-quality presentations. This position demands a high level of discretion and problem-solving ability to address complex issues related to event production and client relations, often requiring independent decision-making supported by strategic oversight from the Deputy Director. The role may require irregular work hours including evenings and weekends as well as travel to support bookings and industry engagements. As an administrative, exempt position, the Performing Live Program Manager must be adept in balancing artistic programming with budgetary constraints, ensuring the Mesa Arts Center continues to thrive as a cultural landmark within the city and beyond.
