Job Description

Heritage Oaks Hospital is a well-established psychiatric hospital located in northern Sacramento, California. It operates under the umbrella of Universal Health Services (UHS), one of the nation’s largest and most respected providers of hospital and healthcare services. Since its inception in 1988, Heritage Oaks Hospital has played an integral role in the mental health system of Sacramento and Northern California, providing a high standard of care. The hospital is a fully accredited 125-bed facility that specializes in acute psychiatric treatment services. It caters to a diverse patient population, including adolescents, adults, and senior adults. One of its key specialties is treating substance abuse and chemical dependency related to drugs and alcohol. As a Medicare provider and a participant in most commercial health insurance plans, Heritage Oaks ensures accessibility and comprehensive coverage for its patients. Committed to service excellence, the hospital focuses on delivering tailored treatment plans that aim for optimal patient health and recovery outcomes.

The Housekeeper role at Heritage Oaks Hospital is crucial in maintaining the hospital’s cleanliness and safety standards. This position involves performing daily janitorial and light maintenance tasks, including cleaning patient rooms, offices, and public areas. The housekeeper plays an essential role in ensuring a safe environment compliant with OSHA and JCAHO regulations, which are critical for health and safety in healthcare settings. In addition to routine cleaning duties such as vacuuming, dusting, mopping, sweeping, and trash disposal, the housekeeper is responsible for monitoring facility grounds and responding to emergencies when needed. This role requires flexibility as it is offered on a per diem basis, and the incumbent may be required to work variable shifts, overtime, and flexible hours. The housekeeper also supports the Plant Operations Director and Housekeeping Supervisor as required, emphasizing teamwork and collaborative efforts to maintain the hospital environment.

Heritage Oaks Hospital, as part of UHS, benefits from the resources and stability of this Fortune 500 company which has an annual revenue exceeding $14 billion as of 2023. UHS operates a wide network of acute care hospitals, behavioral health facilities, outpatient centers, and other healthcare services across the United States, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and the United Kingdom. The organization employs approximately 96,700 people and is recognized as one of the world’s most admired companies by Fortune and Forbes. This large network provides a supportive and resource-rich working environment for employees at Heritage Oaks Hospital.

The Housekeeper position specifically requires attention to detail, the ability to work with minimal supervision, and readiness to respond to emergency situations. Educationally, a high school diploma or its equivalent is preferred, although on-the-job training is provided. Candidates should have at least two years of experience in janitorial, light maintenance, or safety duties, preferably in a healthcare environment. CPR certification is mandatory, reflecting the hospital’s commitment to safety and preparedness. Additionally, new hires must complete the "Handle with Care" training within 30 days, a course that prepares staff for participation in hospital codes related to patient and staff safety.

UHS and all its subsidiaries, including Heritage Oaks Hospital, promote an inclusive work culture that values diversity, equal employment opportunity, and mutual respect among all employees. The company strictly adheres to equal opportunity employment laws concerning race, color, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, genetic information, nationality, disability, veteran status, and other protected categories. The Human Resources department supports candidates by ensuring that recruitment processes are legitimate and secure, protecting applicants from recruitment scams or fraudulent postings.
