The role in question is closely supervised by the Food & Nutrition Supervisor or Clinical Nutrition Manager and plays a vital part in supporting the hospital’s operational excellence in patient care through food service. The primary responsibility of this position is to assist in the transport and serving of food to patients, ensuring that the process is efficient, hygienic, and patient-focused. The individual in this role contributes to maintaining a sanitary environment within the food service areas, adhering to stringent safety and sanitation protocols that align with hospital-wide policies. This position also emphasizes compliance with patient-centered medical home benchmarks by supporting an environment where nutrition and timely meal delivery are part of the holistic care approach for patients.
In addition to food delivery, the role coordinates activities around tray assembly, room service operations, and sanitation maintenance, which are essential to patient satisfaction and comfort during their hospital stay. The role requires vigilance in following detailed procedures, such as setup of workstations before meals, adherence to tray delivery and retrieval guidelines, and the enforcement of safety measures that protect patients, staff, and visitors. The role often involves physical demands such as lifting, walking, stooping, and requires an ability to communicate effectively in English. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- One year related experience
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Able to read and speak English
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling
- Must meet vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Assembles and distributes patient trays
- Ensures that assigned workstation is set-up before the meal in accordance with procedures
- Follows the trayline delivery and retrieval procedures
- Follows room service operator procedures
- Maintains appropriate sanitation in-service areas and prep areas
- Assures the safety of patients, staff and visitors through enforcement of safety policies
- Performs additional assignments as required by supervisor
