Job Description

Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS) is a renowned healthcare organization committed to delivering high-quality medical care to patients in various communities. As part of this esteemed system, Bridgeport Hospital embodies the core values of integrity, patient-centered care, respect, accountability, and compassion. These foundational principles drive every individual within the hospital to contribute actively towards the organization’s mission and vision. As a patient-centered medical home, Bridgeport Hospital focuses on coordinated, comprehensive care tailored to the unique needs of each patient. Every member of the hospital team plays a vital role in ensuring continuous quality improvement and enhanced patient access to healthcare services. Bridgeport Hospital is dedicated to promoting a team-oriented approach where patients are at the center of the care process, and all employees are empowered to contribute meaningfully.

The position of Food & Nutrition Aide at Bridgeport Hospital is integral to supporting patient care by assisting in the delivery and servicing of meals to patients. Under the guidance of the Food & Nutrition Supervisor or Clinical Nutrition Manager, this role ensures that meal trays are assembled and distributed efficiently and in accordance with established procedures. The Food & Nutrition Aide plays an essential role in maintaining cleanliness and sanitation within work and prep areas to uphold the hospital’s high standards of food safety and hygiene. Responsibilities extend beyond simply serving meals, encompassing safe handling of trays, proper sanitation, and timely delivery and retrieval processes. This role requires a commitment to safety for patients, staff, and visitors by adhering strictly to departmental safety policies and procedures.

This position is ideal for individuals who are detail-oriented, reliable, and passionate about contributing to a healthcare environment where nutrition and patient service intersect. The role demands physical stamina, as it involves standing and walking for extended periods, stooping, kneeling, and the ability to lift and move moderate weights. Effective communication skills and the ability to follow instructions are essential, ensuring smooth coordination within the food and nutrition team. Although this role primarily focuses on supporting patient nutrition services, it also offers the opportunity to engage in additional tasks as assigned by supervisors, providing potential growth and learning within the hospital setting. Bridgeport Hospital fosters an inclusive and supportive work environment, encouraging continuous development and collaboration amongst all staff members. Through this role, employees become valued members of the patient care team, helping to promote well-being and comfort through quality food services.
