Job Description
Tri-City Mental Health Authority (TCMHA) is a public agency dedicated to serving the diverse communities of Pomona, Claremont, and La Verne in the Los Angeles area. Established in 1960, TCMHA has a long-standing history of providing comprehensive mental health services designed to support individuals and families of all ages in their journey toward recovery and improved well-being. The agency operates with a mission to enhance access to mental and emotional health services through an integrated system of care. It collaborates closely with community partners to offer a wide array of support, including psychotherapy, clinical case management, medication support, peer-to-peer programs, psychoeducation, vocational training, socialization activities, and extensive community outreach.
This specific job opportunity is for a part-time Peer Support Specialist II position within the Adult Outpatient Department (AOP) at TCMHA, located at 2008 N Garey Avenue, Pomona. The role is crucial in delivering peer-to-peer support services both in-office and in the field. This means engaging directly with clients and their families to provide encouragement, guidance, advocacy, and connection to resources that facilitate recovery. The Peer Support Specialist II uses lived experience with behavioral health challenges to build rapport and trust with clients, helping them overcome barriers to treatment and remain actively involved in their care.
The position offers an hourly wage ranging from $25.00 to $30.42 and involves a variety of responsibilities. These include outreach activities, assisting clients in setting and achieving wellness and recovery goals, providing referrals to necessary community resources such as housing, food, transportation, and financial assistance, and supporting clients in understanding their behavioral health challenges. The specialist also helps clients navigate complex mental health systems by attending therapy sessions and meetings, assisting with paperwork, and making sure clients’ concerns are properly addressed.
Ideal candidates for this role will have completed at least a high school education (12th grade equivalent) and bring at least two years of experience providing peer support services in a behavioral health environment. A valid Peer Support Specialist Certification is required and must be maintained throughout employment. Additionally, some positions may require a valid California driver's license, a good driving record, and access to a registered and insured vehicle. Bilingual speakers in Spanish are preferred, reflecting the agency's commitment to serving a diverse population.
As a part-time employee at TCMHA, the position comes with several benefits designed to support the well-being and future security of team members. Benefits include enrollment in the Lincoln Financial 401a Money Purchase Plan, with Tri-City contributing 7.5 percent. There is also an entitlement to 40 hours of sick leave annually after 90 days of employment. Other optional benefits include access to the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and membership in a local credit union. Merit-based salary increases are available annually based on performance, budget, and supervisory approval.
Tri-City Mental Health Authority is committed to equal opportunity employment and facilitates accommodations in the recruitment process for applicants with disabilities. Candidates are encouraged to stay alert to communications from the Human Resources Department regarding their application status. The agency does not cover relocation costs. This role offers a meaningful opportunity to contribute to a vital public service and make a positive impact in the behavioral health community as a trusted peer advocate and supporter.
