Job Description

Children's Specialty Group (CSG) is a distinguished physician-owned private practice specializing in pediatric healthcare. Situated within the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters (CHKD), the only free-standing children's hospital in Virginia, CSG is committed to delivering exceptional care to the most vulnerable pediatric patients. This group is renowned for fostering a dynamic and collaborative environment where leading healthcare professionals unite to enhance patient outcomes and advance pediatric medicine through innovation and dedication. The practice reflects a deep commitment to academic excellence, professional growth, and community engagement, offering a unique opportunity to be part of a respected institution with a clear vision for the future of pediatric healthcare.

The role of Medical Director of Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care within the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters is a leadership position tailored for a physician with a passion for pediatric critical care and a vision for driving excellence in cardiac care. This role involves overseeing the Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care Unit, ensuring the delivery of top-tier clinical services, and leading an esteemed academic team dedicated to improving outcomes for pediatric cardiac patients. The Medical Director will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of cardiac critical care by collaborating closely with cardiac surgeons, intensivists, cardiologists, and other specialists to build a comprehensive and integrated care program. The position offers competitive MGMA-level compensation ranging between $450,000 and $500,000, providing financial incentives that reflect the level of expertise and responsibility the role demands.

The successful candidate will engage with a multidisciplinary team in a high-volume, fast-growing cardiac service line. CHKD currently performs around 120 pump cases annually, with ambitions to nearly double this volume to 200 cases by 2026, supported by a newly established Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU). This initiative represents a rare opportunity to lead program development, contribute to expanding clinical services, and partake in groundbreaking pediatric cardiac care advancements. The role also includes an academic appointment at the Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS), linking clinical excellence with educational leadership and research opportunities.

Living in Norfolk, Virginia offers a vibrant coastal lifestyle, combining the beauty of beachfront living with a rich cultural and historical backdrop. Norfolk and the broader Hampton Roads area provide a high quality of life featuring excellent amenities, outdoor recreational activities including boating and water sports, and a welcoming community. The region boasts numerous cultural institutions, a thriving arts scene, and robust educational options, making it an ideal location for professionals seeking both career growth and a fulfilling personal lifestyle.

This position not only offers a chance to lead at one of the most respected pediatric specialty groups but also to live and work in a region known for its exceptional livability, safety, and community spirit. The Medical Director will be integral to advancing pediatric cardiac care while enjoying the benefits of a supportive professional environment and an enriching personal setting. Candidates interested in influencing pediatric cardiology and critical care at a high level within a collaborative and forward-thinking institution will find this opportunity remarkably rewarding.
