The Payroll Manager position at Spurwink plays a critical role in supporting the organization's mission by ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of all payroll operations. This full-time role, reporting to the Assistant Controller, is responsible for overseeing the entire payroll process to guarantee staff are paid correctly and in accordance with federal and state laws. The successful candidate will manage the payroll team, maintain precise payroll records, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Additionally, the Payroll Manager will serve as a bridge between payroll functions and human resources, participating actively in joint HR and finance meetings to align processes and uphold organizational standards. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with strong leadership skills and a deep understanding of payroll management systems, particularly ADP, as well as wage and hour laws. The Payroll Manager helps to maintain a healthy internal control environment, making sure financial practices reflect best practices and regulatory standards. This role also involves preparing routine reconciliations and supporting the organization during financial audits and workers' compensation audits, contributing to fiscal responsibility and operational integrity. Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or finance
- Minimum five years of experience in payroll management or related financial roles
- Experience with ADP payroll processing preferred
- Knowledge of federal and state wage and hour laws
- Strong leadership and teamwork skills
- Excellent organizational and analytical abilities
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with regulations
Job Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or finance
- A Certified Payroll Professional Certification (CPP) preferred
- Minimum of five (5) years' experience in a field related to payroll management, supervision and processing, administration of finances, and financial accountability preferred
- Experience with ADP payroll processing preferred
- Must have knowledge of wage and hour laws
- Must maintain a strong internal control environment that is supported by best practice and adherence to federal and state regulations
Job Duties
- Supervise the processing of the organization's bi-weekly payroll while overseeing the supervision of the Payroll team
- Review quarterly State and Federal tax reporting prepared by ADP prior to filing
- Act as a liaison between Payroll and Human Resources as well as participate in the organization's HR/Finance shared meetings
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reconciliations of payroll accounts as well as other general ledger accounts
- Assist with the annual financial audit as well as the yearly self-insured worker's compensation audit
