Job Description

This position requires advanced technical and administrative skills in collection, entry, preparation, and distribution of biological specimens for analytical testing. The role involves proactive engagement with patient and process quality improvement initiatives, ensuring full compliance with all regulatory agencies and internal policies.

In addition to specimen handling, this role demands leadership capabilities to coach, mentor and guide phlebotomists and ancillary staff, promoting employee engagement, safety, quality, and productivity. The position includes responsibilities such as monitoring staff performance, training new hires, managing daily operational workflows, scheduling, attendance tracking, and participation in financial oversight activities like supply ordering and labor cost management. The individual is also expected to communicate effectively with both internal teams and external customers, modeling excellence in customer service at all times.

Physical demands of the job include frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching with necessary agility and fine motor skills. Due to the exposure to blood and bodily fluids, adherence to standard safety precautions is required. Advanced computer skills are essential for managing the various systems utilized within the department. Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and have at least two years' experience in the clinical laboratory setting with strong knowledge in phlebotomy and test management. Additional certification requirements apply if placed in specific departments.

Preferred qualifications include previous management experience or participation in management training programs, an associate degree or equivalent experience, and national phlebotomy certification. Job Requirements

  • Minimum two years’ experience within the clinical laboratory in phlebotomy or test management
  • Ability to perform complex problem solving and leadership skills

  • Working knowledge of regulatory, accrediting, and compliance requirements
  • Good leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • ADHS Fingerprinting Certification or ability to obtain for Mobile/Long Term Care placement
  • Ability to execute Confidential Information and Restrictive Covenant Agreement for IOP placement
  • May require valid driver’s license and eligibility for company auto insurance
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently
  • Physical agility and adequate reaction time
  • Adequate hearing and visual acuity including color vision
  • Fine motor skills and good eye-hand coordination
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
  • Ability to use proper body mechanics to assist patients
  • Adherence to standard precautions for exposure to blood and bodily fluids

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Utilizes advanced knowledge and skills in collection and receipt of biological specimens into the department
  • prepares samples for analytical testing and distribution
  • Takes ownership of the department or area and acts as a conduit for process and procedure changes
  • Focuses on quality improvement by setting goals, investigating issues, and communicating root causes
  • Coaches and mentors phlebotomists and ancillary staff to enhance engagement, safety, quality, and production
  • Manages daily operational oversight including scheduling, attendance, and compliance with licensing requirements
  • Participates in financial monitoring, supply management, and labor cost control
  • Communicates professionally with internal and external customers, models excellent customer service
