Job Description
Syracuse Community Health is a respected healthcare organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and compassionate care to the community it serves. Established with a mission to enhance patient health outcomes through quality service, Syracuse Community Health operates a network of clinics and healthcare facilities focused on delivering accessible and patient-centered medical care. Known for its commitment to patient satisfaction and engagement, the organization prioritizes innovation in healthcare delivery while maintaining a supportive environment for both patients and staff.
The Patient Service Representative I (PSR I) role is a key position within Syracuse Community Health that acts as the primary point of contact for patients. This role demands professionalism, accuracy, and excellent communication skills to ensure patients have a seamless experience when accessing health services. The representative is responsible for numerous critical tasks including gathering and inputting patient information, verifying insurance forms, scheduling visits, making reminder calls, and managing correspondence. These duties are essential in supporting the smooth operation of healthcare services and ensuring that patients feel valued and supported throughout their interactions with the organization.
Occupying this pivotal role means contributing directly to patient satisfaction and engagement, which are core values for Syracuse Community Health. With competitive compensation starting at $18.00 per hour for PSR I and increasing to $19.00 per hour for PSR II after the successful completion of an introductory six-month period, this position offers a stable opportunity within a healthcare setting. The position requires full-time commitment, with 40 hours per week spread across eight-hour shifts. Shift times are flexible and range between 7:30 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., accommodating various staffing needs and patient care times.
The Patient Service Representative I position is ideal for individuals with at least one year of related experience in medical office assistance, reception, or customer service within a healthcare environment. While a high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory, additional education or certifications in healthcare or medical office administration are preferred, supporting staff professional growth and enhanced service quality.
Physical requirements for the role are minimal but important, including the ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach, climb stairs, and occasionally lift up to 15 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus, as these are necessary for handling daily tasks effectively. This position not only demands technical skills but also emphasizes interpersonal abilities as representatives serve as the friendly and reliable face of Syracuse Community Health, building trust and facilitating communication between patients and healthcare providers.
