The Patient Dining Associate position at Sentara Leigh Hospital is a full-time, on-site role involving rotating shifts of 12 hours, including working every other weekend. This important role operates within the Food Services Department and plays a critical part in the delivery of patient nutrition and satisfaction. The associate is responsible for serving patient meals on assigned units and must communicate effectively with the Food and Nutrition Services team as well as nursing staff to address patient food-related issues, concerns, and specific diet requirements. This position supports the dietitian in monitoring patients who are on NPO (nothing by mouth), clear liquid, and full liquid diets, documenting food intake for patient intake analysis. Accuracy and timeliness in meal service are essential to meet the physician’s orders for modified diets and to ensure optimal patient care.

The role requires familiarity with various dietary restrictions to maintain high standards of nutrition and patient satisfaction. Certified Food Service Handler’s Card possession is required as per local health department regulations. While experience in food service or customer service is preferred, candidates with equivalent education or experience in lieu of traditional degrees or diplomas are welcome to apply. Sentara offers a competitive environment with up to a $1,500 sign-on bonus for qualified candidates, emphasizing the value the organization places on dedicated food service professionals.
