The Patient Care Coordinator position at Optum is a crucial frontline role responsible for greeting and registering patients efficiently and courteously. This role ensures smooth patient flow by managing wait times, verifying insurance, collecting co-payments, and handling scheduling duties. Additional responsibilities include managing medical records, answering multi-line phones, directing patient inquiries, and processing walk-in patients and visitors. Employees in this full-time role work Monday through Friday with eight-hour shifts, typically from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM, with flexibility to travel up to 10% to support other clinic locations as needed. The hourly pay ranges from $17.98 to $32.12 based on experience and local labor market conditions. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One or more years of customer service experience
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to travel up to 10% for coverage at other clinics
  • Ability to handle cash at high volumes
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize
  • Ability to work independently and as a team
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • At least one year of customer service experience with strong communication skills in person and on the phone
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
  • Experience with electronic health records preferred
  • Related healthcare experience including scheduling preferred
  • Experience handling multi-line telephone systems preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
  • Ability to handle cash and perform mathematical computations
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Job Duties

  • Greets patients as they arrive and manages wait time
  • Complete check-in and check-out tasks including insurance verification and precertification
  • Collects co-payments, co-insurance, and deductibles and issues receipts
  • Manages cashier box and daily deposits according to company policies
  • Processes walk-in patients and visitors
  • Answers phones and schedules appointments
  • Manages medical records including filing, scanning, and preparation for schedules
  • Ensures correspondence is processed and medical records release requests are managed
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned
