The Patient Care Coordinator role at Optum is based in Golden, CO, working Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM in 8-hour shifts totaling 40 hours per week. This position is pivotal in providing outstanding customer service by greeting and registering patients promptly and pleasantly. The coordinator performs important administrative and financial tasks such as verifying insurance, completing pre-authorizations for procedures, collecting co-payments, managing cash registers, and scheduling patient appointments. Additionally, they handle phone inquiries, manage medical records, and maintain communication logs essential to smooth patient flow and care coordination.

This full-time role offers an hourly pay range of $18.00 to $32.00 depending on factors such as experience, education, and certifications, ensuring compliance with local wage laws. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • minimum two years customer service experience
  • effective communication skills in person and by phone
  • proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • ability to handle cash accurately
  • knowledge of medical terminology preferred
  • experience with electronic health records preferred
  • experience in scheduling and phone triage preferred
  • ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • two years of customer service experience with strong communication skills
  • intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • one year of experience with electronic health records preferred
  • one year of related healthcare experience including scheduling preferred
  • one year of experience handling multi-line phone calls preferred
  • knowledge of medical terminology preferred
  • ability to handle cash and perform mathematical computations

Job Duties

  • Greets patients and manages wait time
  • completes check-in and check-out tasks including insurance verification and pre-authorizations
  • collects co-payments, co-insurance, and deductibles and issues receipts
  • manages cashier box and daily deposits according to company policies
  • processes walk-in patients and visitors
  • answers phones and schedules appointments
  • redirects calls and assists callers with questions or concerns
  • manages medical records by maintaining, filing, scanning, and preparing them for schedule
  • processes requests for medical records release and maintains logs
  • establishes and maintains effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public
  • performs all other related duties as assigned
