Job Description
UPMC is a leading healthcare provider known for its commitment to excellent patient care and comprehensive medical services. Operating as a major hospital system, UPMC offers a wide range of healthcare services across numerous specialties, focusing on innovation, community involvement, and patient-centered care. The organization embraces values such as compassion, respect, and integrity, ensuring that every patient and family member receives supportive and personalized attention throughout their healthcare experience.
The Patient & Family Concierge role at UPMC is essential in enhancing the overall patient experience by providing compassionate and generalized support throughout the hospital stay. This dynamic position requires the ability to adapt to various responsibilities, ranging from assisting with patient transport and dietary services to managing supplies and coordinating with different hospital departments. The Concierge serves as a welcoming presence, guiding patients, families, and visitors while maintaining a supportive and efficient environment. This role not only involves logistical coordination but also ensures a warm and positive atmosphere that fosters patient satisfaction and comfort.
The Concierge plays a pivotal role in destination coordination by greeting visitors, offering clear directions, and escorting patients throughout the hospital. It includes managing parking services, issuing scooters, and respecting patient confidentiality. In addition to environmental services such as cleaning and maintaining patient rooms and common areas, the Concierge also assists with dietary duties, ensuring proper meal assembly and delivery while maintaining strict food safety standards.
Transportation services are another critical duty, with responsibilities including moving patients, lab specimens, and equipment within the hospital using appropriate vehicles, documenting transportation activities, and maintaining the condition of transport equipment. The Concierge is also responsible for supply and equipment management, handling ordering, stocking, and inventory control to meet the needs of various hospital units. They maintain important logs, check expiration dates, and ensure all materials are delivered accurately and on time.
Administrative duties include coordinating patient procedures, managing patient charts, handling communication within the hospital, and ensuring that all administrative tasks are completed efficiently. The Concierge also supports telehealth consults by managing telemedicine equipment and facilitating virtual consultations between patients and remote healthcare providers.
This role requires a compassionate, driven individual with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced hospital environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in similar roles and a deep commitment to enhancing the patient and family experience at all times. UPMC values employees who demonstrate dedication, adaptability, and a strong work ethic, promoting an inclusive and supportive work culture.
Employment type may vary, but the position typically requires at least six months of experience in a related role or equivalent competencies. The Patient & Family Concierge embodies the UPMC values and contributes directly to the quality of care and patient satisfaction from first to last impression, making it a rewarding career choice for compassionate individuals seeking meaningful work in healthcare.
