The Patient Access Lead role at Optum is a full-time, dynamic position that plays a crucial role in managing the initial contact between patients and the provider’s practice. This position involves organizing daily activities and paperwork, leading shift operations, and overseeing the work of Patient Access Specialists to ensure smooth and efficient practice functioning. Candidates will undergo four weeks of comprehensive on-the-job training with set hours from 8 am to 4:30 pm AZ time, Monday through Friday. The role also requires flexibility to work any 8-hour shift during regular business hours with occasional overtime as needed. The hourly pay ranges from $20.00 to $36.00 based on experience and other factors, along with a $2,000 sign-on bonus for external applicants.

Patient Access Leads are responsible for coordinating the activities and resources of their team, acting as a technical resource, monitoring compliance with procedures, and providing training and orientation to new staff. They make decisions related to patient access services on behalf of management and ensure accurate patient registration. Additional duties include explaining payment and billing assistance programs, identifying outstanding patient balances, collecting payments, and contributing to process improvement initiatives. The role is integral to maintaining high standards in patient service and operational efficiency, driving both patient satisfaction and business success. Job Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience analyzing and solving complex customer problems
  • 1+ years of patient access and/or patient registration experience
  • Ability to work 100% onsite at 1955 W Frye Rd in Chandler, AZ
  • Ability to have flexibility to work any dayshift schedule which will be determined
  • Must be 18 years of age or older

Job Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience analyzing and solving complex customer problems
  • 1+ years of patient access and/or patient registration experience
  • Ability to work 100% onsite at 1955 W Frye Rd in Chandler, AZ
  • Ability to have flexibility to work any dayshift schedule which will be determined
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • 1+ years of experience with prior authorizations
  • 1+ years of team lead experience in patient access
  • Experience with EPIC program
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology
  • Understanding of insurance policies and procedures
  • Ability to perform basic mathematics for financial payments
  • Experience in requesting and processing financial payments
  • Experience in insurance reimbursement and financial verification

Job Duties

  • Leads or coordinates shift operations of assigned activities, resources, and staff
  • Serves as a technical or functional resource and performs similar duties with staff
  • Assigns, monitors, and reviews progress of work
  • Monitors and reports compliance with policies and/or procedures
  • Oversees and evaluates orientation and training of assigned associates
  • Identifies and corrects any errors found in the registration information
  • Makes decisions on behalf of PAS management in their absence related to PAS policies and procedures
