The role of the FT Pastry Sous Chef at Bishop Gadsden is an opportunity for culinary professionals passionate about pastry arts and committed to culinary excellence in a fast-paced and high-quality environment. This full-time position is key to maintaining and elevating the standards of pastries and desserts served within the community. The Pastry Sous Chef will work closely under the guidance of the Executive Chef to ensure every dessert and baked item meets or exceeds the established quality standards, regulatory requirements, and Bishop Gadsden’s own stringent policies. The role demands leadership in supervising daily pastry preparation and presentation, ensuring consistent quality in every portion, maintaining strict sanitation and safety standards, and supporting menu planning and scheduling for dessert offerings. The Pastry Sous Chef will also help manage kitchen personnel in the pastry section, promoting teamwork, and ensuring smooth operational flow across the culinary team and other departments. Job Requirements

  • Degree or certification from a post-secondary culinary arts training program desirable
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a high-volume food service operation
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and written
  • Ability to read and comprehend numbers and written material
  • Interpersonal skills necessary for exchanging information and maintaining courteous relationships with residents, families, visitors and employees
  • Ability to stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb and balance
  • Ability to lift and/or carry weights of up to 50 pounds

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Supervise the daily implementation of pastry and dessert items and procedures which ensure the continued quality service of meals in accordance with expected facility standards
  • Verify that all portion sizes, quality standards, department rules, and food and equipment policies and procedures are maintained by kitchen employees
  • Verify that all sanitation and nutrition practices and refrigeration temperature controls are maintained by kitchen employees
  • Inspect food garnishments for amount and quality for the Café and Winningham Court
  • Assist the Executive Chef with menu planning and scheduling of desserts and baked goods
  • Promote teamwork and cooperation among staff and with other operational departments
