Job Description
Eataly is the world’s largest artisanal Italian food and beverage marketplace, renowned for its dedication to authentic Italian culinary experiences. Unlike traditional chains, each Eataly location is unique, offering its own special character and theme while maintaining a consistent mission that centers around three core aspects for its guests: eating high-quality authentic Italian food served in its restaurants, cafés, and to-go counters; shopping for a curated selection of premium Italian, local, and homemade products; and learning through interactive classes and the knowledgeable expertise of its team. Eataly has established itself as a leading destination where food lovers can immerse themselves in Italian gastronomy, combining quality, education, and community in a single vibrant marketplace.
The Pastry Hourly Sous Chef role at Eataly is a key position dedicated to the art of preparing delicious Italian pastries that meet the company’s high standards for quality and authenticity. Reporting directly to the Pastry Chef De Cuisine and the Pastry Sous Chef Manager, this role involves supervising and actively participating in crafting artisanal pastries including tiramisu, cannoli, cookies, brioches, gelato, and other traditional Italian desserts. The Pastry Hourly Sous Chef leads the pastry team in executing recipes accurately, adhering to appropriate portion sizes, maintaining rigorous quality standards, and ensuring compliance with the department’s operational rules and health regulations. Beyond creating exceptional pastries, the sous chef is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen by washing and sanitizing utensils, preparation equipment, and counters.
This position offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $22 to $26 and requires flexibility regarding onsite work schedules that often include evenings and weekends. Eataly emphasizes inclusivity and skill development, promoting a supportive work environment that values communication, precision, and culinary passion. In this role, the sous chef applies both culinary expertise and team leadership to ensure guests receive an outstanding experience through every pastry crafted. Those interested in this position should be prepared for a physically engaging role that involves lifting up to 50 pounds, standing and moving for extended periods, and working with commercial baking equipment such as ovens and mixers.
Overall, working as a Pastry Hourly Sous Chef at Eataly presents an exciting opportunity to grow in an esteemed culinary environment that celebrates Italian traditions and flavors. The company supports its employees with attractive benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, parental leave, a 401K plan with matching contributions, bonus programs, discounts, and exclusive classes on Italian cuisine. Eataly also prides itself on its equal employment opportunity policy and commitment to a respectful, inclusive workplace. This role is ideal for passionate pastry professionals seeking to refine their skills in a dynamic and culturally rich setting.
