The Pastry Decorator role at El Rancho Supermercado is a vital position within the bakery department, responsible for preparing, decorating, and maintaining a variety of fresh baked goods that attract and satisfy customers daily. This role requires a balance of creativity, technical baking skills, and customer service excellence. The Pastry Decorator assists in preparing desserts, pastries, and baked goods according to established recipes, ensuring quality and consistency. As a key team member, the Pastry Decorator contributes to the overall bakery operation by decorating cakes, mixing icing colors artistically, stocking the display cases, and supporting baking activities for breads, cookies, and traditional pastries like pan dulce. The role also involves interaction with customers, taking cake orders, and addressing their needs with a friendly, service-oriented approach.

Working in a fast-paced environment, the Pastry Decorator must maintain high standards of cleanliness, food safety, and organizational efficiency, routinely conducting inventory and managing product rotation to minimize waste and maximize freshness. The position requires collaboration with the bakery team and management to ensure smooth operation and customer satisfaction. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Food Handlers Card
  • Ability to interact positively with customers
  • Ability to decorate pastries and cakes
  • Experience in retail or bakery environments preferred
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred

Job Duties

  • Greet and interact with customers to address questions or concerns in a friendly, service-oriented manner
  • Assist Pastry team with preparing desserts and pastries as needed
  • Take cake orders, ensure the department has fresh fruits and products, and maintain a fully stocked display case
  • Support team with baking various breads, cookies, and desserts, including pan dulce
  • Decorate cakes and pastries for customers
  • Use artistic skills to create beautiful decorated cakes and pastries and mix colors for icing
  • Effectively communicate with management and baking team in order to fulfill and address any issues or needs requested by guests and or other employees
  • Conduct inventory on a regular basis to ensure proper levels
  • Maintain standards for quality, cleanliness, organization, customer service, safety, loss prevention, sanitation, department conditions, and food safety
  • Stock, fill, face, and ensure pricing accuracy while examining the rotation of all bakery products and discarding outdated or spoiled items
  • Work with various professional Bakery equipment, including heat sources, mixers, and blenders
  • Take food orders in person and by telephone
  • All other duties as assigned
