The role of Pastry Decorator at El Rancho Supermercado is a vital position within the bakery department that focuses on preparing fresh baked goods and decorative pastries daily for customers. This role involves following recipes meticulously while ensuring that items are labeled and stored properly to maintain quality. Working in a fast-paced environment, the Pastry Decorator is responsible for the assembly and decoration of cakes, pastries, breads, and desserts, including traditional items such as pan dulce. The position requires a blend of artistic skill and culinary expertise, as decorative work involves mixing colors for icing and creating aesthetically pleasing designs that delight customers.

Additionally, the Pastry Decorator acts as a brand ambassador by delivering excellent customer service, greeting customers, taking cake orders, and ensuring that the bakery display case is always fully stocked with fresh products. Communication and teamwork are essential, as the decorator needs to coordinate effectively with management and other bakery team members to address any guest requests or operational needs. Maintaining high standards of quality, cleanliness, safety, and sanitation in the bakery department is a key responsibility, along with conducting regular inventory checks to ensure optimal stock levels.

This is a full-time position offering a competitive wage of $15.00 per hour. The job demands physical stamina due to continuous walking and standing throughout shifts, along with the ability to lift weights up to 50 pounds occasionally. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid food handlers card
  • Ability to walk continuously throughout shift
  • Ability to stand continuously throughout shift
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and team members

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid food handlers card
  • Customer service experience desirable
  • Pastry decorating experience desirable
  • Retail experience desirable
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish

Job Duties

  • Greet and interact with customers to address questions or concerns in a friendly, service-oriented manner
  • Assist pastry team with preparing desserts and pastries as needed
  • Take cake orders, ensure the department has fresh fruits and products, and maintain a fully stocked display case
  • Support team with baking various breads, cookies, and desserts, including pan dulce
  • Decorate cakes and pastries for customers
  • Use artistic skills to create beautiful decorated cakes and pastries and mix colors for icing
  • Effectively communicate with management and baking team in order to fulfill and address any issues or needs requested by guests and or other employees
  • Conduct inventory on a regular basis to ensure proper levels
  • Maintains standards for quality, cleanliness, organization, customer service, safety, loss prevention, sanitation, department conditions, and food safety
  • Stock, fill, face, and ensure pricing accuracy while examining the rotation of all bakery products and discarding outdated or spoiled items
  • Work with various professional bakery equipment, including heat sources, mixers, and blenders
  • Takes food orders in person and by telephone
  • All other duties as assigned
